Florida Governor Scott still skeptical about High Speed Rail - 01/30/11 11:02 AM
Governor Scott is concerned about the costs involved in High Speed Rail Transportation as currently proposed for Florida. Questions of budget and commercial viability of the program as drafted remain a concern. Bay News 9, Tampa Bay News arm of BrightHouse Cable has a poll up on their website for Floridians to voice their opinion on this megabuck project. Despite the construction jobs to be created (including, probably for my former employer), I oppose the project as drafted because of costs. What is your opinion (Florida residents only, please). Vote in the current poll <link here> (4 comments)
New Leadership for Republican National Committee - 01/14/11 06:43 PM
National Harbour, MD – The Republican National Committee has chosen Reince Priebus to succeed Michael Steele as Chairman of the RNC for the 2012 Election Cycle. Mr Priebus is currently the Chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party. The election process seems to me to resemble the process for electing a Pope. Mr Priebus led on every ballot, but was not successful in gaining a majority until the seventh and final vote. Michael Steele withdrew after the fourth ballot. Michael Steele guided the Republican Party through difficult times and rarely had the full support of the Party for his plans and operations. Steele, (10 comments)
A Totally Positive Post - 01/08/11 08:43 AM
I may from time to time take on a rather gloomy visage in my blog posts. Well, I am writing about government, politics and economics... what do you expect. So, just this once, I offer a totally positive post for your consideration. Enjoy. In a recent post, Inna Hardison referred us to TED. Since it is one of the few acronyms I can remember and actually know how to spell, I immediately followed her link to the current offerings on TED. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design - but their tag line is Ideas Worth Spreading. They have been around (5 comments)
I Like It ! - 01/05/11 07:44 AM
The incoming Republican majority in the House of Representatives is ruffling some feathers today with a reading on the House floor of the United States Constitution. Considering that every member of Congress takes an oath to support and defend the Constitution, I believe that it is about time that some of them read it. If this works out maybe they could start reading the legislation that they vote on. News reports that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has accepted an invitation from Minnesota Congressman (woman) Michele Bachman to meet with incoming Congressmen to speak to them in general terms about the (6 comments)
The Year Ahead - 01/03/11 05:18 AM
The News media and some writers here at Active Rain are cautiously optimistic that the economy will turn around in the coming year and economic indicators will improve. This is not another article about sunshine and free lunches. I suggest the current political and economic climate has not changed. The production of the lame duck Congress in the past month is a demonstration that the Obama Administration and their agenda is alive and well in spite of the mid-term elections. Let there be no illusions here. The 2010 Election cycle was not an endorsement at the national level of the Republican (3 comments)
