activerain community: Want Me To List Topics for a Blog? It Would Be Easier to List What Not to Write About. - 06/02/15 10:15 AM
Want me to list topics for a blog?  It would be easier to list what not to write about.

What an exciting month for blogs and ActiveRain contests… June’s Cloudburst of You, Summertime Special… Show Us Your Home for the Summer, and June Contest-Five Reasons You Love Where You Live.

The Cloudburst asks for 20 posts this month.  If you’re new to ActiveRAin or perhaps been more of a lurker and reader than an active blogger, you may wonder what you can write about.

Just how many market reports or listings can you blog about?

I could list all kinds of topics and … (62 comments)

Sensei/Grasshopper or the Blind Leading the Blind

When my BARFF, Roger D. Mucci , called and asked if I would help him with something, of course, I said “Yes!”

He wanted to support Dick Greenberg’s Sensei/Grasshopper challenge this month so asked if I could show him how to insert a video into his post.

(as a side note, I have to point out that the irony here is that for Roger’s “Be the Star in Your Own Movie” contest that he hosts each year, you are required to include a video if entering in the Best Movie category.  Up until this week, he’d never … (29 comments)

Reblogging… It’s Not Just for Points!

(I thought I might get some attention with the word “Points” in the title! )

You may be relatively new to ActiveRain or perhaps you aren’t that familiar with the concept, but reblogging someone’s post isn’t just about the points.

Reblogging serves a purpose, actually several purposes.

1. It’s a way of spreading the word about a topic, an issue, a challenge or contest or an event.
I can’t count the number of contests or challenges I might have missed had it not been for another member reblogging a post.
Today, I read a reblog of Anita … (43 comments)

Time to vote!  Please vote for Barbara at the link below!   I've met Barbara at some of our AR Meetups in Palm Beach County and she is worth the few minutes it will take for you to click on the link!
Barbara knows the area well and I know that if I were looking for property in Vero Beach, I would call her.
Hope you'll take some time to help her out.

activerain community: Seven Years Later I'm Still Walking in the Rain. - 02/05/15 08:59 AM
Seven Years Later I’m Still Walking in the Rain.

When I found ActiveRain, it was quite by accident.  I’d been looking around at different websites, doing some research and saw this ActiveRain Logo.

What was that?  So, I clicked on it and started to read.  And, I have not stopped reading and learning for 7 years.

While I joined February 6, 2008, I did not write my first post until June 5, of 2008.  It had no photos, no bolded words, no links… it was the wall of words everyone dislikes.  I had one comment from Cindy … (76 comments)

They say you’ll always remember your first, and I certainly do!
Cindy Edwards, of RE/MAX in Johnson City, TN, was the first and only member to comment on my very first post.  I have never forgotten this.  All of us here know what it’s like to push the “Publish” button for the first time, sending your post into ActiveRain Cyberworld, not knowing if anyone would read it.

Cindy has been an agent for 20 years and has her Broker’s license and a team of 5.  However in her previous life (doesn’t … (37 comments)

Ringing and Singing in the Rain- Still Waters DO Run Deep.

Thank you to Debbie Reynolds for our January Ringing and Singing in the Rain Challenge.

While we certainly don’t need a challenge (or points) to pick up the phone and contact another member, this challenge has given many (myself included) the nudge to just do it.

I’ve wanted to speak to Gary Waters for a long time.  He is always kind enough to comment on my posts and always offers steady advice and information.

It’s hard to believe, but Gary is a native Floridian.  Those are … (24 comments)

Another FUN MeetUp in Delray Beach!

Even though the sun was MIA, we had a fun MeetUp at Deck 84 in Delray Beach.   Deck 84 is on the Intracoastal so it was like having our own parade of boats and yachts passing us by.

I hope that you have a MeetUp to attend in your area.

Share your photos with us.

Conrad Allen- So Much More

Did you ever “see” someone just about every day, but not really know them?  Such is the case with Conrad Allen.

Debbie Reynolds, via her Ringing and Singing in the Rain January Challenge,  has given us all that nudge we needed to reach out and contact some of the members here.

There are several reasons why I wanted to call Conrad, but the two at the top of my mind are:
1- He has been kind enough to read and comment on my post all of the time.
2- After reading … (28 comments)

activerain community: Those Rocks Help Us Walk in the Rain. - 01/18/15 10:16 AM

Those Rocks Help Us Walk in the Rain.

Growing up in Houston, I knew that I could count on two things:  there would be a lot of rainy days and there was always construction going on somewhere.

Sometimes navigating around in the rain necessitated walking on stones or boards that had been  laid there by the builder to create a path for those who tried to journey across rain-soaked grass and mud.

I came to rely on them to keep me from getting stuck in the mud, going off path or ending up totally soaked.

So, … (52 comments)

Ringing and Singing in the Rain with Noah Seidenberg… and Learning Something Too!!!

I love Debbie Reynold’s Ringing and Singing in the Rain Challenge for this month because it has given me the nudge I needed to pick up the phone to call some of the members here.

I can’t remember when I began following Noah’s blog, but I do know that what I loved about his posts were that they seemed so genuine.  In October of last year, Noah lost his dad, to whom he was very close.  His beautiful words and his sharing of his feelings with this … (34 comments)

activerain community: Get Out! - 01/13/15 09:57 AM

This post was inspired by a recent post written by Lisa Von Domek .  She recently took time off from ActiveRain  on January 1.  She did post a Happy New Year post and had some bouts of withdrawal but otherwise, she enjoyed the day.

Good for her!!!

I love spending time here but besides taking a break to spend time during the holidays or weekends with family, friends, and yourself, there’s another very good reason to get out and get away from your smartphone, tablet or laptop.

It will give you something to write about!

Finally, 6 Years, 2 Hours and Many Posts Later... We Met.

I am speechless… well almost.  Today I finally got to meet my good friend Sharon Tara.

Yesterday while roaming around Facebook, I saw a photo of Sharon that she’d taken at the Florida State line.

“Are you in Florida?”

I knew her parents were snowbirds somewhere in Florida and we’d talked of someday being able to meet.
I have no idea how often we talk, but it’s been many times over the years.
She is the one I call when I am in Home Goods … (36 comments)

Make Sure That Contact Number Can Be Seen When You Write About Local Events.

If you enjoy writing about local events or places, then make sure that the contact number can be seen!

The other night while getting ready to turn in, my cell phone rang.  It is the only phone I have (besides my husband’s cell) and I could see that it was a local number.

It was a young man who, from the sound of his voice) has been out experiencing the sights and sounds of Atlantic Avenue.

It is now December 1 and if you completed Donna Foerster’s 30 in 30 challenge… Congratulations!!

If you’ve never posted one a day for 30 days, you can now breathe a sigh of relief!

But Wait!

We know that you were motivated by the personal challenge, but you also want those 3000 AR points don’t you?

Be sure that you go to Donna’s original challenge post and fill out the form.  You just need to fill in your name, your AR username and say that you completed the challenge.

What Could Possibly Make Me Miss Sunday NFL Football?

If you know me, then you know how much I love my football, so what could possibly make me miss my Sunday NFL games?

I’d never met Donna Foerster, but I “know” her.  It goes back to 2011 (I think) when I began reading Donna’s Friday movie posts. ( Hint Donna- how about bringing them back?!)

She is giving, generous and just plain nice. And, I am also very happy that she is healthy and with us today.

Don’t Worry About What We’ll Think of You...We’ll Tell You!

A very normal thing bloggers concern themselves with is what others will think of their topic and/or their view on the topic.  Well don’t worry… we’ll tell you!

We have 3 contests/challenges this month and one is a 30 in 30 challenge.

 That’s a lot of blogging!

Now, some of you may not ever worry about what others will think, so go ahead… move on.  You’ve already got this one down.

But for those who are considering a particular topic or point of view, you may be asking … (39 comments)

Discovering My Itch-Only for You, Richie Naggar.

I love the idea of Richie Naggar’s September contest because it forces/nudges us into
creating, if we haven’t already, a tag-line or slogan for our business.  It’s something that wasn’t even on my long “To Do” list.

So, while I had to think about this, I also didn’t.

Instead of trying to create something new, I thought about the posts that I’ve written about staging and ReDesign.  One of the phrases that I always use is……...
