Take Two Chill Pills & Relax, It'll Be Better Tomorrow
I'm struggling for my thoughts not to turn into a rant, but I'm getting worn down.  Trying to keep my Ambassador hat on straight, keep the rational engineer software running smoothly, not kick the beehive, but there's a trend lately that disturbs me in the Rain.
It seems like after every change in the Rain, parts of the community get riled up.  The posts and comments follow:
They're just trying to screw with us by making changes to just make change for change sake. How dare they make changes without … (86 comments)

active rain: ASK AN AMBASSADOR: So You Think AR Is Losing Its Juice? - 05/13/14 12:31 AM
ASK AN AMBASSADOR:  So You Think AR Is Losing Its Juice?
Periodically wandering the halls of Active Rain we'll see the comment:  "Our traffic is down.  Active Rain isn't what it used to be."
Now we'll be upfront, you're not going to find the phrase guru associated with our names.  We're not SEO experts and at this point I don't even know what's the latest animal name for Google's search algorithm.  What I do know is it's ever changing, and will continue to do so.  We're chasing a moving target, if there's even a target to chase.
But here's my guess:  … (79 comments)

active rain: Active Rain or Wordpress? - 05/13/13 02:42 AM
Active Rain or Wordpress?
It's a question we've seen many times, and with Trulia's acquisition of Market Leader/Active Rain, a question we'll probably see more times.  People worry.  What's the future hold?  Will Trulia make many changes to Active Rain?  Only time will tell.
Regardless, what we have learned over the years is having all our eggs in one basket isn't usually the best choice.  Having only ONE real estate niche?  What happens when that niche dries up?  Having NO computer backup?  REALLY bad if you have a crash.
So why should our blogging and website selection be any different?  Going … (26 comments)

Active Rain:  Your Personal Network of Consultants!
Reason #2,483 to join Active Rain: membership comes with a personal network of consultants!  Chances are if you want to know something, someone here has the expertise to answer your question.  Some are paid professionals, others are agents just sharing what they've learned, but all bring knowledge to the Rain that helps us!
When we first joined Active Rain, I can't say we had any idea of just how much of a resource Active Rain would become for us!  And we also didn't know what we didn't know.  Wordpress?  We'd probably heard or seen … (66 comments)

active rain: So You Think Active Rain Is Broken..... - 07/10/12 03:32 AM
So You Think Active Rain Is Broken..... Aaaaack!  I got up this morning and suddenly Active Rain didn't behave the way I thought it should!!  What do I do??? Well it's both complicated and simple at the same time.  Maybe it's you and maybe it's the Rain.  It's not like Active Rain never has performance issues, although personally our experience has been almost uninterrupted over the last months.  The Ruby Rails transformation and other behind the curtain tech magic seems to be doing the trick, BUT there is still the occasional glitch. So back to what can you do (assuming the … (106 comments)

active rain: I Know Active Rain Works Because.... - 03/20/12 11:24 PM
I Know Active Rain Works Because.... One of the things we do when new buyers and sellers call us is ask how they found us.  A friend, direct mail, on the web?  If on the web, do they know where?  Maybe what search they ran?  And you know what the standard response is if they found you on the web...."I found you on the Internet, not sure exactly where".  If we're lucky we'll find out they searched for "RE/MAX agents in Lebanon" or "RE/MAX agents in Mason" but that's usually about as specific as it gets.  But bottom line we get … (65 comments)

active rain: Is The Active Rain Community Responsible For Slowness in the Rain? - 01/25/12 01:45 AM
Is The Active Rain Community Responsible For Slow Rain? We know.....what could we as community members have to do with the system running slow?  I mean we've got Ruby on Rails and new stuff happening behind the curtain all the time, right?  Isn't it Active Rain's job to give us the software & hardware combination that makes it work, no matter what?  And while to a certain extent we can't argue that point one bit, but......perhaps there are some things we as Active Rain members can do to improve the situation AND help ourselves at the same time!  We're not software/hardware … (51 comments)

active rain: Paying It Forward: Active Rain Is ALL About Paying It Forward - 10/30/11 02:31 AM
Paying It Forward:  Active Rain Is ALL About Paying It Forward We don't think anyone who logs into Active Rain the first time intuitively knows what to do.  Maybe if they took an Active Rain University Class or were lucky enough to have someone sponsor them and take them under their wing, then they got a good start.
But most of you were probably like us.  We joined, and didn't really know a thing we didn't learn by watching and asking.  To us, Active Rain epitomizes the Pay It Forward culture.  We've NEVER had someone not answer a question on how … (23 comments)

active rain: Do We Expect Too Much of Active Rain? - 10/20/11 01:17 PM
Do We Expect Too Much of Active Rain? This one has been building up for a bit and isn't in the theme of our typical posts, so here goes....
We've been what we would deem hardcore Active Rain disciples since about mid-2010.  Buyers and sellers aren't going to fall into our laps just because we're here.  We've learned that results come with hard work and focus, and paying attention to what others in the Rain are teaching. And we've learned that there are tremendous friendships to be made.  And we've learned that there are some truly amazing people here who do … (81 comments)
