moondancer realty: Celebrate the Dreamers - WNC Pottery Festival in Dillsboro, NC - 11/02/11 10:18 AM
Our country was built on the ambitions, whims, and faith of strong-willed entrepreneurs. It always has been and always will be the backbone of our nation. Anytime you visit Smalltown America or attend a festival of any type, drill down to the origins of the event and celebrate the determined individuals who made the dream a reality.

Saturday, November 5th marks the 7th anniversary of the Western North Carolina Pottery Festival held right here in the historic Town of Dillsboro, NC. It is the best known regional pottery festival in the south, attracting renowned potters from all over the country. Front Street … (16 comments)

moondancer realty: Lapsang Souchong - 10/27/11 01:34 AM

My mother and brother visited recently, the first time since Dad passed away June 9th. As always, she came bearing gifts. Boxes and bags of books, pierogis from a special place in St. Petersburg, cheeses, wines, some of Dad’s flannel shirts, cameras, binoculars and his favorite - Twinings Lapsang Souchong Tea.

My father had particular tastes in food and beverages although he was always willing to taste things first, well…except for egg whites. We four kids grew up thinking Dad was allergic to egg whites. Turns out he just didn’t like them but wanted to be sure the … (21 comments)

moondancer realty: We're Not Out of the Woods - 10/26/11 01:54 AM

If you are expecting a political diatribe or an in depth analysis of our current economic condition, there are any number of insightful posts available to study. I do have the same hopes, concerns and fears about the future that others do. Sometimes though, a title can be taken literally…as is today’s title. We’re not out of the woods here in Balsam, NC. In fact in all of Western North Carolina, we are very fortunate to be surrounded by the woods!

All seasons have something unique to celebrate, and we’d have to search really hard to find someone who … (18 comments)

moondancer realty: No Matter How Colorful the Character - Take Care of Business First! - 10/25/11 06:41 AM

One of the most interesting parts about being in real estate is the opportunity to meet colorful characters and there is no doubt that one of the MOST colorful characters has been Frisco. However, no matter how charming and talented the folks are that you are getting ready to work with in real estate - don’t forget to take care of business first.

Before we had a chance to review the Agency Disclosure, Frisco gave me some technical assistance from the top of my computer screen. Funny thing is, he actually made more sense than most of the “help” … (8 comments)

moondancer realty: A Key to Success - One Great Office Manager - 10/09/11 01:19 AM

Sure, there are lots of reasons that people come to MoonDancer Realty for their real estate dealings, but one of the key components to the success of our team has got to be attributed to our Office Manager, Sienna.

While we have a number of ways to help people relax when they prepare to make the foray into the real estate market, Sienna is the ultimate ice breaker. We meet a huge number of people all the time. “How ‘bout those Panthers” or “Nice weather we’re having” are such cheesy openings and can’t compare with the little pink nose … (20 comments)

moondancer realty: Local Yokel Weather in Jackson County, NC - 10/08/11 02:34 AM

Wouldn’t I love to give you a really impressive and technical post about weather here in the mountains? Well, I can’t but Preston Jacobsen with Local Yokel Weather sure can. What I can tell you is that for most of the years I’ve lived here, weather forecasts in the mountains can be like tuning into a forecast for a totally different state!

Weather forecasts on television are broadcast from Asheville, NC (40 miles away), Greenville, SC (75 miles away) or Knoxville, TN (90 miles away). Pretty often they bear little resemblance whatsoever to the weather we actually do experience … (10 comments)

moondancer realty: Alpacas Study Our Office Manager - Wordless Wednesday - 10/05/11 04:22 PM

The Fall Festival at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina last weekend always features alpacas right next to some weavers of alpaca wool.   Their faces are so fascinating that it is impossible not to stop and study them.  On this day, they in turn were fascinated by our Office Manager and spent their own sweet time studying her.   … (13 comments)

moondancer realty: I'll Have Them Call You When They Get To Town - 10/05/11 01:30 AM

It happened twice last month. “I’ll have them call you when they get to town.”

It’s exciting…people are considering second homes in the mountains of Western NC again. And we celebrate that personal friends have confidence in our real estate acumen to refer their other personal friends. We’ve done a great job of putting our names “front of mind”. When they think or hear about real estate, our friends think of us. We’re grateful for their trust.

We’ve decided the next step is to be transparent with friends about how we establish relationships with “leads”, “prospects” and the … (16 comments)

moondancer realty: "Peeps" is a Very Personal Term and Real Estate is a Very Personal Profession - 10/04/11 01:54 AM

“Peeps” is a very personal term and real estate is a very personal profession. Peeps are not just the little yellow confections available during Easter. ActiveRain has been quite a ride for me and I’m sure for lots of other people actively posting their hearts out. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I’d have “peeps”.

In the beginning of my AR interaction, I really didn’t know what I was doing there. For a couple of days anyway. What a surprise when I started receiving comments on my posts. Then when I got my first subscriber, … (9 comments)

moondancer realty: Knock and Show - I Tried to Show Your House But Your Tenants Made it Impossible - 09/22/11 02:54 PM

To say I was scared is an exaggeration.
To all sellers of tenant occupied properties, you should know I tried to show your house but your tenants made it impossible. The showing instructions were 24 hour advance notice, knock and show.
I’d shown seven houses near downtown Waynesville. One property had tenants who would be notified and leave the house unlocked. I called the agency to verify and was told there hadn't been a return call from the tenants but not to worry. Just knock first.
We pulled up at the appointed time, my clients waited in the car until … (28 comments)

moondancer realty: This Old House - Wordless Wednesday - 09/21/11 03:51 PM

What stories this old house on Blanton Branch Road in Sylva must have to tell.  It's easy to see that at one time this house was someone's pride and joy, watching over the fields and livestock of a hardworking family.  How many triumphs and heartbreaks?  Births and deaths? Love fulfilled and love lost?  A page out of history that we can only imagine the words.   … (18 comments)

moondancer realty: When The Grass is Tall, Watch Out for Snakes...Horsing Around in Jackson County - 09/16/11 04:20 PM
When the grass is tall, watch out for snakes is exactly what was going through my head when we were out on Blanton Branch this morning to check on our signs.  What a lousy day to have chosen to wear flipflops, I thought.  Leslie called out from the car to see if I wanted her to adjust the sign, heck yeah, I answered!
So back to the snakes.  While I was waiting for Leslie to walk over, I'm thinking about snakes in the grass and suddenly I hear a rustling and clomping sound emanating from the grass.  The fight or flight … (13 comments)

moondancer realty: Diamonds and Rust - The Simplest of Gifts on a Wordless Wednesday - 09/14/11 12:36 AM

It's been hanging on the deck ever since Monica gave it to us one Christmas about a dozen years ago.  When dew or rain touches it, we have Diamonds and Rust.  The simplest of gifts can provide the greatest of pleasures.  I must have 100 photos of this piece of rusting metal.   Today, I share two of them and hope you'll also find yourself humming Joan Baez's song throughout the day.  You remember "Diamonds and Rust, I've had enough...but I feel so much better dressed in love". … (16 comments)

moondancer realty: Hungry Anyone? - Small Town of Sylva, NC Boasts Big Town Type Choices - 09/13/11 04:38 PM
When you think about eating out in our area - Sylva, NC really is the little town with the big town amenities.

When I was telling Leslie about participating in the 30 Day ActiveRain Localism Challenge, she had the great suggestion to write about the many advantages to living in this area and the access we have to many of the same things that bigger cities boast about.  As soon as she said that, I started seeing this Town of Sylva and the surrounding towns in Jackson County with new eyes.  There is so much to talk about, this will … (3 comments)

moondancer realty: Motown in Cullowhee!!! - Unbelievable! - 09/12/11 02:04 PM
OMG - were we ever rocking in Cullowhee, North Carolina! Leslie and I could barely believe we had Motown in Cullowhee. MOTOWN IN CULLOWHEE!!! UNBELIEVABLE!  Home of country, gospel and bluegrass? For two hours yesterday, I was a teenager in Detroit again. The fabulous "Masters of Motown" opened the season for the John Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center at Western Carolina University.

From the moment the very first notes were uttered, I was transported back in time to walking to school with girlfriends carrying our transistor radios, listening and singing to Martha Vandella, the Supremes, the Four Tops, Smokey … (11 comments)

moondancer realty: Privacy, Views and Convenience - Sylva Vista Delivers - 09/10/11 03:51 PM

Jackson County, North Carolina offers a number of really fine subdivisions, but I think one of my favorites is Sylva Vista. I posted an article the other day about the sense of community Sylva Vista exhibits, but today I want you to know how convenient it is to the Town of Sylva. It’s wonderful that a subdivision like Sylva Vista can boast privacy, views AND convenience to everything you might need on a daily basis.

Less than 10 minutes from Sylva Vista’s entrance is grocery shopping at Food Lion, movies at the Quin Theater, ice … (7 comments)

moondancer realty: Little Clusters of Sunshine in Cannon's Corner - 09/08/11 02:33 PM
Thank you to our neighbors in Cannon's Corner for providing the little clusters of sunshine during this mini rainy season.
For the first time in months, we've had gray and rainy weather for three days straight in Dillsboro, NC.  While the rain was welcome and needed, I find myself missing the blue skies and sunshine!  Even brief glimpses would be nice.

We love having our office location in Cannon's Corner in Dillsboro.  Lucky for us, our neighbors from Shirley's Boutique, Magnolia's Jewelry and Monkey Toes keep the flower pots full all season.

For those people wanting to move to the mountains of Western North Carolina and desiring to achieve the feeling of privacy, surrounded by raw beauty and coupled with the security of "community" will find that ideal combination in the Sylva Vista Development in Jackson County, North Carolina.

The full team of MoonDancer Realty, including the Office Manager, visited our good friend at her home in Sylva Vista yesterday evening. Leslie and I talked about the scary roads I’d shown property on over the weekend while we drove through Sylva Vista. All we could think about was how organized the … (11 comments)

moondancer realty: How About this View? - Fontana Lake - 09/06/11 04:33 PM
How about this for a view?

Located not far from Bryson City, Fontana Lake is the largest lake in Western North Carolina.  The lake covers two counties...Swain and Graham.  It is also the only access point for some remote areas of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  Fontana Lake is very popular with boaters of all kinds plus considered some of the finest waters for small mouth bass fishing.

Selling real estate in the mountains of Western North Carolina can be a real pleasure.  This shot was taken while showing a house in Fontana Lakes Estates.  Combining lake, … (21 comments)

moondancer realty: Mountain Getaway Cabin Near The Great Smoky Mountains - 09/04/11 03:54 PM

Who wouldn't want their very own mountain getaway cabin? The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and the surrounding areas are some of the most popular mountain getaway and vacation land in the U.S.  Many people can't wait to get here and stay in a "mountain cabin" while exploring the Smokies, shopping in our quaint towns, rafting or fishing in the rivers, boating on the lakes or hiking in the national forests.  After repeated visits, some people just decide they want to have their very own mountain cabin - that's where we come in.       Just recently we … (2 comments)
