El's has great food and great service, and yes, it is a true drive in. Brandywine Bay is just a few minutes from Newport, where you can enjoy events at the Crystal Coast Fairgrounds. From the Circus, or a good o' fashioned Rodeo, to the First Annual County Fair being held November 5 - 8, 2009. Bogue Banks is close by, and there you will find the North Carolina Aquarium, Fort Macon State Park, Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure, and of course, The Beach!
