Keep your bag off the floor! A surprising offender when it comes to germs is your handbag. Gerba found that the bottom of a women's handbag contained up to 10,000 bacteria per square inch--and more than a third tested positive for fecal bacteria. Ewww! Much of it comes from bathroom floors, but parking your bag in other nasty spots , like the floor of a bus or beneath a restaurant table, is also to blame.
The bacteria themselves aren't a problem; it's what you do after you put your bag down that matters. You can end up touching the bottom of your purse with your hands, then touching your face, or, worse yet, placing it on the kitchen counter or the dining room table, so that the bacteria could end up in your food!
