HOW DOES HAVING A BUCKET OF ICE WATER POURED OVER YOUR HEAD FEEL?

How you feel when COMMENTS have been DISABLED!Lenn

OH MY GOODNESS!!!  Please do not disable COMMENTS on reBlogs.  Sometimes that introduction to the reBlog is more interesting and comment provoking that the reBlogged post.  Often the comments are more interesting than the original post or introduction to the reBlog.

Thwarted, thwarted by the "comments disabled" is like a bucket of ice water poured over my head.

When I get to the BOTTOM of a reBlog or blog post and see COMMENTS DISABLED, I want to scream and am quite likely to unsubscribe or just sit here spewing with my fingers on the keyboard wanting to comment, comment, comment.

To me, it depends. I did subscribe to a lot of members of Active Rain. I enjoy reading their blogs, like what they have to say, and trust them if ever they re-blog. I'm not online all the time to read most of the posts. So sometimes I just click my subscriptions button to read blogs from the people I subscribed with, and if they have re-blog and I know I missed that original blog, I would definitely read it.  Why? It's because if they liked the post and was good enough for them to take time to re-blog it, I'm sure I will like it too.

I also admire re-bloggers  how they write and introduce the blog in the simplest term, for me, I think that's being respectful to the original writer. At the end of the blog, the re-blogger comes again and it says "please send your comment to the original post," and then disables the comment.  Again for me, that's pure sincerity.

But then again, if they are doing it only to get points (I hope not), I will click next. Maybe they will lose my trust and my subscriptions. That's just me, how about you? Do you re-blog? Or should I say, do you read re-blog?

I rarely reblog, but when I do...it's because I think my readers will enjoy it....or because I want to add my thoughts. I never even think about the points (and I'm a points wh*re :)). I hate it when I see "comments disabled" on anything. I need to talk, comment, spew my "fascinating" comments. Ugh

Sometimes I'll disable comments on my reblog.  Here's why...the points I get for the comments are zilch.  And if the blog was really comment worthy, the original author should get them.  If however, I've made a intro that adds something to the subject matter, or just feel like having a discussion about the topic, I'll leave them on.

Lenn you took the words out of my mouth "When I get to the BOTTOM of a reBlog or blog post and see COMMENTS DISABLED, I want to scream".  And as you well know taking words out of my mouth is not easy to do .......... LOL

Thanks folks.  I'm pressed for time today but thanks to everyone for these interesting comments on my reblog of the blog about reblogging.

I agree with Reynold, if I regularily read someone's post and they reblogged someone elses there must be a good reason.  To disable comments gets my dander every single time.  What is the point? They reblogged for a reason and then cut us off at the knees! My motto is Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

Lenn - as usual you get the comments rolling!  My overall experience has been that the comments have as much meaningful content as the original blog ... and that doesn't change with a reblog.  It's not a TV re-run ... is is a new and dynamic set of commentary ...

Lenn, I think many may feel they may actually be disrespecting the original author and may hit the "no comments allowed" thinking the reader may head over to the original writer?  Just a thought :)

Lenn, if you allow others to reblog your post, why would you disable the comments.  That makes me scream!

Hi Lenn - I know that a few people who do this have great intentions, but it does make commenting a little more time-consuming.  What stuns me is something somewhat related.  There are two bloggers that I know of (probably more) who write "members only" posts that are clearly directed at buyers or sellers - not at agents.  And then they disable comments so I can't even suggest how they could change that to get more benefit from their well-written posts.  I did send one an email about it, but he never changed it or responded to me.  I don't get it!

Lenn, couldn't agree more.  Often the reblogger has a differenttwist on the original and commenting on the original is not relevant.  I don't get why someone would want to disable comments, unless it's because they have absolutely no time or interest to respond to what others have to say.

Lenn - You always have interesting comments when you reblog.  In many (most?) cases, you often have many more comments than the original post.

On a few occasions the comments are turned off on some of my re-blogs.  I have reasons for this.

Just saying words to the effect of, "I found this post interesting" isn't enough when REBLOGGING.

I believe there is a responsibility to introduce the REBLOG to let others know what you found so interesting or controversial, just as you do Lenn.

I also noted how you explore a particular point to generate opinions, and then ask a question to keep things going; really well done.

This is why in my opinion comments should be left open.

Lenn- I completely agree.  I like to acknowledge the reblogger (when it's merited) as well as original poster, esp if their content was great.  You're right that the reblogger sometimes has a new insight.  In addition, my relationship is usually w/ the reblogger so I like to keep that going.

When someone reblogs me, I'm so honored.  I always go to the reblog to thank them, but I also check in to a) see the comments and b) address any q's that sometimes come up (I'm a more specialized field and so sometimes the q's posed can't be answered by the reblogger.  Also, I'm super honored when the commenter took enough time to also leave a comment on my original post.

Debbie.  You WORK the reblog just the way I do.  Love it.

John G. Indeed.  Keep the conversation going.  We get nothing when comments are disabled.

Marc.  THAT is the power of the reblog.  You're using the reblog feature to express your point about the article but may also express a counterpoint.

Lenn, Don't think I have disabled comments,at least not intentionally. I really like "working" the reblog when I find  ".... the comments are more interesting than the original post or introduction to the reBlog."

Lenn - I like being able to comment on the reblogger's post as well as the original writer's article. I suppose the reason to disable is to encourage folks to go to the original post and comment but why not comment on both. I never disable and don't plan to.

BTW when the rebloger writes their statement about disabling, blah blah blah, this means less words the reblogger has to post to get their 25 per the new rules. LOL

Margaret.  Me too.  I "work" the reblogs too.

Jaff.  Good catch.  Seems to me that if reblog a post, that in itself recommends the readers go to that post.  If one is simply saying, go here, why . . . .  I can't even figure out the rationalle.

Bill.  I agree.  About the only time is when ActiveRain has posts to enter contests and the post gets to many comments they direct members to another post.
