What Would We do With $220 in Savings? That's Easy.....Our Kitties Have a List of Demands!!!

The Feline Management Team of the Spear Paisley and BillHousehold Charitable Center for Feline Rescue has meowed spoken and provided the following options for what to do with any windfalls of $220, although as far as they can figure, everything in life is FREE!!!:

  • 550 cans of Friskies Special Diet canned cat food....willing to accept Salmon, Ocean Whitefish or Beef & Chicken Dinner varieties  (a six month supply)
  • 220 cat toys of the $1 variety...they don't want to have to search for a toy, there should be one stationed for every 10 sq feet of living area!
  • 44 LARGE bags (25 lb or higher) of kitty litter!  It's not a year's supply....but it's a good start!
  • 7 bags of premium dry kibble, because premium kibble helps keep them from going to the vet!
  • 1 unplanned trip to the vet for one of the feline Thundering Herd!  Okay...so maybe $220 may not be enough for that trip!!!!

The outdoor kitty playpenYes, our little furry friends have taught us, there is NO such thing as a FREE cat!! :)

We love animals of all types, and were originally dog people.  Somehow, the cats figured out when our dog population got to JUST the right level for them to show up and be "adopted".
violet crashed on the couch

We live out in the country, and went about 17 years before our first cat dumping....perhaps their appearance coincided with the housing market starting to fall.  We'll never know the kitties background story (we've asked, but our translator is broken!), but two mom cats and five kittens that were just big enough to scoot around and run into our ankles were at the top of our driveway late one night.

Giving away cats and kittens is like giving away zucchini...it's just not going to happen, so they've been a welcome part of our household ever since! :)  The two car garage is the cat shelter at night while our cars get iced up and snowed on during the winter months!  Okay....maybe that part we could REALLY live without!
Shoo Squirrel!

At this point, it would be REALLY strange NOT to have them around to watch their antics!  Too many laughs to not have them now!  But the FMT does say, no more new kitties!! House is full now!!

Michelle, We may not have paid to get them, but we've certainly paid to keep them :)

Chris, Roger is a lot of fun to play with!  We'll let you win, printers and copiers we've got :)  Although the cats want the money....they said something about hedge funds, mortgage backed securities and Bernie Madoff....not quite sure what they're up to, but they needed starter money!

Our cat likes the little red rings off of the gallon jugs of milk. She never gets tired of those. We probably have 50 of them laying on the floors throughout the house. All those store-bought toys? As soon as I get a chance, they are going to be donated to the animal shelter.

Jim, Ours like boxes (of course), wadded up paper, but their favorites seem to be the plastic balls with a bell inside, and some little foamy type material fish.  They'll go to their mini-milk crates and pick out what they want to play with.  Hadn't thought about the milk rings, but could see that they'd love to drive them across the wood floor if they had one.

First off, if you want to be rid of them, I would highly recommend that you talk about all of the benefits of cat ownership (and I am sure there are many). You could give me zucchini, but just not brussel sprouts.

Melissa, After a couple of years, they're pretty firmly entrenched in our household!  No brussel sprouts for me either, although Liz likes them :)  Bill

I loved that line "giving away cats is like giving away zucchini," had me LOL.  What a great visual.  I haven't read many of the other entries, but you're a winner in my book.  Too funny!

$220 would go a long way toward making "shoeboxes" that are filled with useful little "things" to be sent via local churches overseas to the needy. The charity is sponsored by Billy Grahams son, Franklin Graham. His charity work is called "Samaritans Purse".

Jon, Another good charity idea!

$220 is what my accounting teacher referred to as 'budget dust' to most of us, until someone breaks it down like you did, or mentions a charity like Jon did above.

Joetta, Love the term budget dust.  Hadn't heard that before.  Human nature to treat "found" money differently, but a dollar is a dollar no matter the source.

Lyn, Those furballs are more than pampered ! :)  Forget about trying to watch TV between 9 and 10 pm unless you've fed them their evening canned food!  Between meowing, jumping on us and staring at us, or driving a bell ball around the floor, they'll make sure there's no peace until they're taken care of! :)  Not that they don't have plenty of high quality dry cat food to nibble day or night :)

Always happy to hear stories from other cat lovers!  We currently have 3 but at one point (about ten years ago) I had 6.  We never want to be under 2... they're just too much fun.  My husband was a dog person until he met me and now he loves cats and doesn't care to have a dog.  My kitties were so sociable, they won him over.  =^..^=

Leanne, We'd always been dog people with maybe a cat.  The cats showed up about the time our last dog was a very senior citizen.  The cats are pretty funny at times, but could certainly live without their tiffs!

Michael, That's the drawback with taking on pets.  There's always that pain at the end of the road.  We've been there more times than I care to count over our 25 years together, and more to come, but fortunately our cats are all under 3, so we should be able to put it off for a long time.
