Palm Beach County Parks- River Bend in Jupiter is also a multi-historic site just minutes away!
A favorite spot for photographers, kayakers, canoeists , and hikers, River Bend Park is also a multi historic site. Two battles of the Loxahatchee River took place here during the Seminole War in 1838. There are battlefield reinactments as well as walking tours available.
But, evidence has been found of a continual time-line of pre-historic and historic habitation dating back to the Archaic Period, over 5000 years ago!
And if you're in the mood for some fun exercise, you can take a hike or bike ride through a protected (no cars) forest with well-marked paths. If you get there early enough you might see some deer... if you're very quiet. On recent visits, I've seen several sets of deer, wild turkey, sand-hill cranes and peacocks.
Interested in some water activity? You can launch your own canoe or kayak or rent from Canoe Outfitters of Florida. You can also rent bicycles if you don't have one of your own. ($10/day for adults; $5 for children) The trip along the Loxahatchee River, one of the prettiest around, takes you under a cypress canopy that wanders for 5 miles. Check with the park and water conditions before you go. There's a full river trip that can take 5-7 hours or a shorter one.
Did I mention horses?? There is a path for equestrians as well. Just be sure to brin your own horse!
