I had to laugh, initially, at this post. I can remember going out with my sister to different dance clubs and if she was approached by a guy she really didn't want to hook up with, she would give him MY phone number! It's Funny Now! : /

I Hope You Don't Mind... I Gave Him Your Number!

There was a time in my life where the words, "I gave him your number" would make me cringe...seriously. You know, coming from the friend who refused to believe that you are happy being single. Or the director of the organization that truly thought you wanted to volunteer for EVERYTHING. These days, as a REALTOR®, I love those words.

My phone rang this morning. It was a number I didn't recognize. When I said hello, the voice on the other end introduced herself.... I interrupted with, "Oh yeah, I see you at every state, regional and national real estate conference" (just one more reason to get involved folks). She explained that she had been working with a wonderful buyer, but he had decided to buy in my area on the Crystal Coast. She continued, "I hope you don't mind, I gave him your number".

Heck No, I don't mind. Bring on the referrals. I will gladly pay a referral fee!

The man got up the courage to ask the pretty blonde in the corner of the dark night spot to consider just one dance. She sneered, backed away like how could he think such a thought. Not going to happen she said with a dig your heels in sort of stubborness. He has asked for a dance, one spin to move and groove to the music, not to marry him. Her snarky attitude caused his remark...."Oh, with all the noise in this place you thought I "asked you to dance". But what I said was "you look fat in those white pants". And smiled, trolled for another who liked, wanted to not waste the live music and needed some twist and shout exercise. The same as him.

It's a "win-win" situation, if you want to bust out the cliche speak. But it's so true, that networking like this benefits everyone. Referrals are great inroads to even more potential customers within degrees of separation.
