Paying It Forward: Donating to Hurricane Irene Relief
While the effects of Hurricane Irene aren't directly felt here in Cincinnati for the most part, the world is much smaller than it used to be. We know people up and down the East Coast, some friends, some relatives. We've been fortunate and none were seriously impacted and for the most part just inconvenienced.
Bill's brother Joe & family live in Virginia Beach, so they packed up and headed to Lynchburg to wait it out with friends. Bill's sister Debbie and his two nieces live near Petersburg, VA. Now fortunately the nieces were visiting Bill's parents in West Virginia getting that last little bit of fun before school started up again! So Debbie has gotten to experience the last week without the benefit of power other than neighbors loaning electric generators long enough to keep the frozen stuff frozen in the freezer! Southern hospitality coming through in the clutch!
Debbie mentioned to Bill last night that the American Red Cross had been providing her two bags of ice per day at no cost as part of their relief efforts in her area while the power was out.
While we donate heavily to United Way, the American Red Cross hasn't been specifically on our list. So today was a good day to correct that! We made a donation to American Red Cross's Hurricane Irene Relief effort, and we'll use Bill's Johnson & Johnson 2 for 1 matching gift fund to maximize the donation! Hopefully that will cover lots of ice and other essentials for those in need! And if you'd like to help, it's quick and easily done.

A quote from our friend in North Carolina that captures the spirit and intent of these posts:
"I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition. I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can. No more, no less." Tish Lloyd, North Carolina REALTOR®
