Hatch Chile Time in Colorado

Hatch Chile time

Hatch Chile time has arrived in Colorado!     You can buy a bushel of chiles and have them roasted right in front of you.    They put these chiles into plastic bags, and work very well for freezing.

My favorite place to get my chiles roasted is at Nick's Garden Center.     They have a full array of perrinials, annuals, trees and fresh fruits & veggies for purchase.     They are family owned and care about their patrons, and offer wonderful service.   You have choices to the types of chiles you can get roasted, and take them home unroasted.

Here are the roasted chiles.    They SMELL wonderful!   Just in time for football season, as in DENVER, green chile and football just go together!

Saw Hatch Chilies and rushed over - I love these! Our Whole Foods sold them freshly roasted a few weeks ago - what a treat. They set up a roaster in the parking lot and people were buying up like crazy. :)

Larry & Sheila - the plastic bags are very heavy plastic also, which helps keep them in the freezer for as long as you need!

Joan, Love the green chilis!  One of my favorite things when visiting the New Mexico area on business is sampling the chili based dishes! :)  Bill

Joan - not only do I love (and so does my whole family) green chilies, but you did a great job showcasing Hatch Chillies with your photographs! Chillies are so versatile and can be used in so many dishes!

Joan -- I have never even heard of hatch chiles.  Are they really hot? I like the idea that they roast them for you.  What a great service. I love roasted red peppers but it's such a job to clean and get done.  Would you use these in chili type recipes, or are there special treats you use them in?

It's that time of year Joan. I got to sample some Hatch inspired gelato last week. That was a bit strange

Barbara, we have smothered burritos with green chili, and they CAN be hot, but they come mild as well.

Scott, that does sound a bit strange, but I would try it!
