Recently I saw a great article in the rain about combating the media and I have to agree...we must present a clear picture of our industry and what is happening based on facts, our own market places and our local economies.

Instead of listening to all of it...we need to create the media...create it by working harder than ever, training to be strongerHard work + training to be stronger =more sales.

Yesterday I was sitting with one of our top producer's. We were discussing market trends and the difference between selling real estate in the 80's and now.

It was interesting...though neither one of us sold at that time...we both were homeowner's then...knowing what kind of interest rates we paid back then, knowing there were only 3 loan programs available....and yet so many purchased real estate in that time.

As I really listened to her...I felt proud...regardless of market conditions...she wrote yet another contract.  As she was leaving the office, I couldn't help but think our conversation was helpful to both of us.

She reminded me regardless of adversity.... she knows how to get it done.  Is she extraordinary?....a hard worker?....master at building relationships?..yes to all of the above but she has more....

It was clear to me....she believes...she believes in what she does....she is proud....she is a professional and she believes in the American Dream!

Throughout history, there has been wars, tax and insurance issues,  terrible economies, recessions and the depression.  We tend to forget the human spirit is strong, strong as long as we work together.... Along with strong spirits we as people have dreams and visions...visions and dreams since childhood..a common vision to become homeowner's

Our parents did it, their parents did it and hopefully our children's children will continue to have the same visions...visions passed on from generation to generation. Visions of Homeownership

I am proud to be a Real Estate Professional and just like any other industry there is the good, the bad and the ugly.  I have a voice....a big mouth...I am proud....I love my profession.

If you ever spot me around town, you will hear it in my voice with very strong convictions... through my actions and I can tell you I walk the walk and talk the talk, I too am a believer...

I know moral is down, everyday there are real estate professionals getting out the business and mortgage companies closing.  Our profession seems to be in turmoil.

Just like everything else, news media plays its role. We have to remind everyone we do one thing that is incredible...we have so many reasons to be proud...We provide a true service that has a huge meaning

....H-O-M-E-O-W-N-E-R-S-H-I-P......The American Dream!

So the next time you are feeling upset or disgusted...or can't bear to listen to any more media....ignore it...create your own...

That means work harder, train to be stronger and as my daddy says, "Hope for the best and prepare for the worst." Rather than wallowing in self pity...remember you among thousands of Realtors who do provide a true service....we help people achieve life long dreams...that is homeownership..."The American Dream!"

19 Comments on Homeownership.... Are You A Believer?

I remember when my parents built their first home, it was 8% interest, then my first home was 11%. You are right, people will always buy homes and just because we are all in a correction market, there are still buyers.

Midori - I couldn't agree more with you. Thanks for adding to the positive blogs that have addressed all the negativity going on in the media.

The media outlets are using our market as an easy way to fill air time... it's not too tough to do a story about something related to real estate... Gloom & Doom sells air time and print media... it's always front page news of gloom and doom, never hey there were so many new homeowners because they could finally afford to buy one...

Missy-yes, while we do have struggles just imagine how things were during the great depression....13% for me in the 80's...FHA.....

Dan-I sincerely mean it!  Homeownership is the American Dream...

Scott...I think we also have to do our part and be the neighborhood experts...once people see you this way....you write the media..

Neal- Hmmm, I wonder who is louder?  Let's put Lysa on the spot and ask her!  On a serious note...you should know..,,and I know you...you have that conviction..and you believe in what you do..most of all you get that look.... :)
