Laramie, Wyoming Real Estate: "Deer Road," more than just a name!

By

The names of most streets, avenues, roads, etc. are as Deervaried as the reasons behind the names themselves.  We have numbered streets, lettered streets, streets named after people and streets named after regional landmarks.

Most towns are sure to have a street or two named after a president.  Laramie's president streets are Washington, Madison, Van Buren, Fillmore, Harrison, Taylor, Hayes, Polk, Jefferson, Johnson, Grant, Cleveland, Monroe, Truman, Franklin, Garfield,  Kennedy and Lincoln.  Eighteen in all!

Then there are names based on regional history.  I wonder how many western towns have a Lewis Street and a Clark Street, as well as a Custer or a Sherman Street.  I know Laramie does.

Popular animals or birds of the area are also common for street names.

So....  I shouldn't have been su
rprised yesterday when this doe tried to follow us into the home I was showing at the foot of the mountains - on a road aptly named - Deer Road!

Brenda,

It would be interesting to try and get a deer OUT of a house! lol

Maybe the sellers feed her regularly, and she thought you might have a tasty treat for her.  :)

Hi Tony - It was pretty awesome!

Steve - Too funny, actually....didn't even cross my mind until you said it!

Hi, Virginia - can you imagine what a disaster that could be?! : )  I imagine you are right and that she is fed regularly... the snow was awfully deep up there so I can see how it would be hard for the people in the neighbor hood to resist!

Hi Brenda,

Wonderful picture and your friend is so adorable. I used to see deer in my area but recently the city put up chain link fence all across the Back roads and it keeps the wildlfe inside. Maybe that is good but it is not as pretty. I miss the deers! Thanks and enjoy such a lovely area.

Brenda,

Fun post of street names near you in Laramie, Wyoming and I got a chuckle for the picture of your new friend.  In PA, we have a number of deer, but not Deer Rds that I can think of... I'll have to check!

Nice! I lived in Austin, Tx for many years...the north/south downtown streets are the names of the major Texas rivers in geographical order of how they appear in the state.
