Map and compassYou Never Know How Far A Blog Post Will Go!

Some posts we write for a specific event.  They've got a short shelf life, but there purpose is served and we move on.

Other posts we right to stick around awhile, and sometimes they have a farther reach than we'd expect.  Recently we wrote 10 Things NOT to Do When Your Home Is For Sale And You're Going On Vacation!  Ten tips meant to help keep home sellers on track while leaving town for vacation.

We were fortunate enough to have RE/MAX International pick up the post as the lead post for their RE/MAX Weekly email blast, so the post got fresh life as RE/MAX agents on Active Rain and outside AR discovered the post.  Pretty cool in itself!

But even cooler is tonight we got an email from a Maryland home seller telling us her RE/MAX agent had discussed the post with her!  And because she had two dogs and one was 18 years old, she contacted us for advice on how to not hinder showings and still make sure her dogs were well taken care of.

Now would we have expected a consumer in Maryland to be contacting us concerning that post when we wrote it?  Of course not!  But we have learned that ANY Public Post (or comment for that matter) has the potential to wind up places you'd never expect!

So write like someone will be reading every word, because somewhere, someone just might!

Keep on Blogging!

I believe it was Suze Orman who said something like "Speak every word as if it will be heard by the universe, because it will."

And today, the same goes for every written word.

Some of my short sale posts have gotten responses from all over the US, very neat to be able to help someone like that.

Marte, We pretty much have to work on that assumption.  You never know what comment left may be the first and only words used to make judgment.

Amanda, Very true!

Karen, Definitely cool to know help has been given, wherever they may live.

Marte, it's so nice to hear that something Suze Orman said is worth listening to, because so much else of what she comes out with is just so much nonsense.

Sharon, We provided additional advice, but fortunately she was able to find a solution for herself that totally worked :)

I had that experience when I wrote a post about some short sale relief for military members.  Had a ton of calls from consumers way outside of my state wanting advice.  It was quite amazing...but daunting.  You almost feel responsibile for folks outcomes :)!

Brenda, We do get involved and often well beyond anything that will result in a paycheck for us.  Had a contact over our vacation from someone out of state whose father is local and on the foreclosure list and trying to avoid that.  Gave her the best direction we could, but there's not much we could do besides be the source of information to contact.

Bob, The more we post, the more contacts we get.  It took awhile to hit critical mass, but we're finally seeing the full results.

I received an email through FB referencing my Localism blog. She mentioned to me that she moved out of that area about 15 yrs ago, but she still remembers the event I blogged about. I was glad that someone out of this area (State) was able to check out my blog.

That is so cool! Active Rain has been a new discovery for me even though I've been a member in and out, it's only been recently that I've discovered how far a post would go!

Cyndi, We're getting more and more evidence that the work we've put into blogging is giving results.  We've got a long way to go to turn it into the dollars to the degree that we want, but the opportunities are increasing.

Paddy, Those posts keep working for us long after we submit them.  We've done a few lately that won't get many comments, but the consumers will definitely find them.

I remember that post.  It was very well written as usual for you two.  It also contained good information that a seller should do when they are on vacation.  Congratulation on RE/MAX International picking up your post.

Evelyn, Thanks!  We try to write every post with the mindset that it might be the ONLY thing that gets read by the consumer.  It's a pass/fail test every time.
