It appears we have a Great White wintering off our coast, as described by the local press as well as OCEARCH, has warned us of the appearance (and now second appearance) of Mary Lee, a 3500 pound Great White. She was GPS tagged, hence we can see her movements.
Now, considering it isn't summer, there are certainly fewer people in the water, but still...the first Great White? What else will this year bring?

I love the ocean and would love to go on a shark dive... but not with that thing. Yikes.
Carol, I graduated from Palatka South High. We used to go surfing at Crescent Beach and at St. Augustine Pier. Now and then we would see spinner sharks or sand sharks - but nothing like these monster Great Whites!
Just remember if you see him in the water while swimming just hit him real hard in the nose and it will scare him away.
I will remember that, as we are going to be south of that, starting Friday for a week. I really need some down time.
I saw this on the news, Carol. Love the St. Augustine area and hope this isn't a new trend in shark migration. Stay safe and keep us informed : )
We were discussing sharks just yesterday and I was amazed to learn that there are more shark attacks in Volusia County than on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia! I was shocked!
So cool! GPS tagging has certainly taken the guesswork away, hasn't it? I'd love to see a Great White- from a distance, of course :)
