NICE vs KIND

I could still hear my mom telling me “play nice” “be nice” as she would drop me off at a friend’s house for a playdate. Have you ever stopped to think what makes a person
NICE or KIND?? Ohh there's a HUGE difference;beautiful

NICE
-Always says YES to please others
-Someone others usually call when they NEED something
-Holds their true feelings and gripe later on
-Someone who always ends up with more work than his/her coworkers and complaints to others later
-Does things that hinder with their schedule
At one point in our lives, we've all been there.  Characteristics of NICE is classified as "People Pleasers"  Is it a good quality? I think not.

KIND

-Performs an act of kindness just because...Visit to a homeless shelter, spending time with an orphan...

-Does not talk about acts performed

-Prays for those who are in need without being asked day in and day out

-Encourages those who are down and in need

-Brings happiness to those around them just being themselves

I say lets stop being nice to each other and start being KIND..

What are your thoughts? Are you a Nice or a Kind person?

Something to think about....

Beth, good questions? I would definitely say I'm more in the kind person camp. Although I do dent to be nice sometimes. Hmmm.

Adrian, Overall, I would consider myself a kind person, however, there are many times when I play the "nice" and have been trying so very hard to just say "no".

Very interesting post Beth. Can we say that "kind" is a deeper, more serious version of "nice"? :)

Wika, to me, being kind is because you want to vs nice you feel the need you have to. That's how I look at it!

Beth, Based upon the descriptions you provide I would say I lean more towards being kind than nice. I'm still getting lessons on being nice to people. I'm learning to say "no" more and reserve being nice when it is appropriate. I no longer do things to please others at my own expense. I can be kind and still politely say no.

Beth.  I love random acts of kindness.  They seem to be more from the heart than just someone being nice.  You can be a mean person and just act nice, but mean people have a hard time being KIND.

Kathleen, I am still learning to say "no" when I need to. I struggled with being a people pleaser for a long time but with age, I've learned to politely say no as well!

Good morning Beth,

I like your definitions because many times people think of these words as interchanable. There is a difference. I feel I do fall into the kind range:).

Dorie, there's a world of difference but yet just as you commented, many may not even realize the difference. I personally would not want anyone to be nice to me!

Beth - your definition of nice sounds like a typical passive-aggressive person. I think you're right!

Beth,

SUGGESTED!

This is an excellent post and a great reminder as we move forward into the New Year. Kindness should be on everyone's Mission Statement and promoting kindness a goal worth pursuing.

Toni, many may not even realize the difference.

Patricia, I do appreciate the "Suggest". I absolutely agree with you, I think we should go out of our way to show act of kindness.
