4 SEO Myths You'll Want to Be Aware of for 2013!

When it comes to SEO, it seems there’s always a little confusion.  You hear rumors of what works, what doesn’t and how you can master the art of SEO to see your name in lights... or at least on page one of a search engine!

Recently, we came across an article, 17 SEO Myths You Should Leave Behind in 2013, from our friends at Hubspot. Rebecca Churt, SEO Marketing Manager at Hubspot knows her stuff and we thought these myths are ones we should all be aware of as we look at improving our SEO for the new year.

Here are just a few of our favorites and solutions we provide as Real Estate Virtual Assistants to ensure you’re getting the most out of your SEO in 2013!

- While we all want to be on the first page, it’s interesting to know that being on a following page can still allow for the same amount of click throughs!  We’ve had clients become discouraged that “SEO isn’t working” for them because they don’t find themselves on the first page.  They’ll then give up on their blog or other SEO driving forces, because they don’t “see the results.”  If you don’t find yourself on the first page- that’s okay!  Your blog, social media and website's SEO can still be hard at work for you!

- There are companies out there who will claim to be able to build up your SEO and promise you first page status... all you have to do is pay them large sums of money for them to hide SEO throughout your website.  Of course you can use key words throughout the content on your website, but there’s still work for you (or your Real Estate Virtual Assistant) to do!

- Need a Social Media Strategy?  Let us help you create one!  We’ve done this for many clients who are looking to boost their Social Media, but aren’t quite sure where to start.  We would love to help you succeed with your Social Media SEO!

- As Real Estate Virtual Assistants, we are daily writing content for clients’ website, blog and social media.  Our content is rich and, while we do use keywords, they make sense to the reader without sounding forced!

If you’re interested in learning more about SEO myths, you can view them on Hubspots website.

We hope that seeing the truth behind these myths will help clear up any confusion you have and boost your SEO power in 2013!   As always, we're here to answer any questions you have about building your SEO or about any of the services we offer.

We'd love to hear from you!  What myths stood out most to you and how do you plan on changing your approach?

Thank you for the myths.  I'm still a little confused but every blog I read makes things a little clearer.

Allie: I especially like the last two myths you mention.  I think they have a tendency to be under-rated and overlooked.  We should all be ramping up our social media, not turning it over to someone else, IMO.  The more real relationship involved, the better ...

Chris and Dick, we understand. SEO is a mystery that not even the experts can fully unravel. It's always changing and there are so many intricacies to think about. We think it's important to combat the myths and outline what NOT to do first because those "don'ts" can be detrimental to your SEO rankings. From learning what the myths are, you can ascertain what some of the best, most acceptable optimization strategies are. Thanks so much for reading!

Gene, we understand what you mean by the "real" relationship in social media, but we also think outsourcing your social media efforts can be helpful. The reason we say that is, realistically, most professionals in this field don't have the time to sit on social media all day and responsive. It's a far better use of your time to work with people who DO have the time to do that on your behalf and tell them how you would respond to things and help them develop YOUR voice. That way, you're having an effective online presence without taking time away from other, more pressing professional tasks you have to do.
