THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME CONTEST-My Home in Silicon Valley, CA
By Michelle Carr Crowe
My physical home is not perfect, it’s still a work in progress; however what I consider “home” is Silicon Valley. Here are some of the many reasons why, besides living here nearly all of my life.
Diversity of people-almost every country’s largest population groups outside of their own land are located here in Silicon Valley. From Samoa to Hawaii, India to China, and more. I truly believe Silicon Valley is the "tipping point" and social connection hub of the world today.
My late mother, Silicon Valley real estate legend Judy Carr used to say, “I love living in Silicon Valley because I can meet people from all over the world without ever leaving home.” Amen!
Diversity of Dining-even better, we have so many delicious restaurants featuring food from Peru, Venezuela, Hawaii, Basque, Ethiopia and more. Of course we have all of the standards, too-Chinese, Indian, Persian, Italian, Mexican, Filipino, German, French, Portugese, etc.
Even better, most of my clients invite me to share in their wonderful cooking, so I enjoy sampling flavors from all over the world.
Creativity of Entrepreneurship-while I can remember when I was young, a worker’s goal was to gain employment at one of the “Big Boys”-IBM, GE and Lockheed, that promised lifelong job security, that goal has changed.
With Xerox PARC and Hewlett Packard, it became desirable to affiliate with creative game changers. Now it’s Facebook, Google and Apple. We are hard workers here in San Jose, Palo Alto and Cupertino-what we want is to create and be part of things that improve people’s lives. It could be a start-up or a stand-up, we'll help it stand out.
Unity of Purpose-no everyone here does not agree all the time. However, in my 27 years of selling homes, I’ve found an amazing unity of values among my clients in San Jose, Cupertino, Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Morgan Hill and Palo Alto.
Most people move to Silicon Valley because they feel the educational, social and career opportunities will give them and their families the best possible future.
What could give a better feeling of home?
