House on Fire!

Let me set the stage:  I didn't sleep well last night- only an hour and a half to be exact...  not sure why but here you go...

After having little to no sleep, I decided to take a nap for about a half hour during lunch...  I turned on the news at noon and closed my eyes.  As I am floating off into Neverland- I hear the broadcaster say "Boca Raton."  I slightly stirred then came awake immediately- I have a contract with a buyer on that street!!!  Due to a family dispute the man of the house poured gasoline all over the house and set it on fire.  Of course no address is announced on the news- OK- Don't panic...  Call the listing agent- No answer.  Text the listing agent- please tell me that the house on fire on Boca Raton is not the house we have under contract- no reply.  Call the listing agents office and see if he is there.  They have not heard anything.  I call the fire department that responded to the fire- they cannot release details.

I was able to ask if they could give me the address.  It is 3342 Boca Raton.  Then I look at my address- 3432 Boca Raton.  It is possible that the number in the report were mixed up the numbers are all the same...

By this time I am kind of freaking a little...  my buyers are heading over to the house in 3 hours for their home inspections with 3 different inspectors...  My car is in the shop getting some maintenance work done- so I have no way to drive out there and check it out before everyone goes for the inspections...

The listing agent finally called back and responded very quick- he called his client confirmed that it was not our house and called me back- AH- I can breath.

I called my buyers and told them just in case they saw the news I wanted them to know that it is not the house that they have under contract.  My day is now level again;)

Shanna, I actually had a house under contract have a serious fire - due to what the fire department called "careless candeling".  And the sellers insurance company did a fabulous job repairing it.  So a fire might not be the worse thing that could happen before a settlement!

Good morning Shanna. Wow, that is crazy, I'm sure it has happened, but really tough when it happens. There was good reason for you not to be able to sleep.

Patricia- I can see a positive time for that- but these clients have a time-line to move in;)  Plus it was arson- so I don't think insurance companies cover any damage in that case.

Joe- Yes- I finally was able to get agood night sleep last night!  I feel very refreshed now!

Pant Pant...Yes, that would be the way it could go.

I have not had a fire while under contract, but I have had one of the sellers disappear.

Needed to get a court action to finish the sale.

What a horrible "wake-up call"!  I am glad it was not "your" house... but I also sincerely hope that whoever's home it was, that they are okay.
