DOING BUSINESS WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with people first...then business Ran Right Realty 636943 licensed to thrill

I like everyone until I have a reason not too. In business, you never know what to expect. Everyone starts out the same way until the "one" issue comes up. That is where you find out who's who and how they think. What are their skills and what skills do they lack?

WHY ARE YOU SO UPSET?

The most often unexpected reaction to a circumstance that could use a different resolution is anger which has its roots in judgment of others. Some people just look for something to judge so they can release their anger accordingly. In business? Not a good arena if you want good results

STAY ON THE REASON

Business should be a place of neutral territory where the common ground is our mutual interests at stake. It is not an opportunity to make trouble or advance private agendas. The focus should be the reason why we came together in the first place and to accomplish that successfully

EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO DO WHAT?

Another arena you come across is the Golden Rule one where the person who has the gold rules and they don't let you forget it. This just says that without this edge, they remain quite shallow and inexperienced. With it, they have some resemblance of life although I question the quality of it. They will too at some point I guarantee you

MR. OR MRS. PETTY-BONE?

Still another dynamic is the nickel and dimer, the one that has to have it whatever 'IT" is and you some times wonder if this person was starved or injured when they were a kid. I have seen well-off professionals pull the "tight squeeze" only because they could. Looks bad in the now and in the times to come.

ANOTHER OPINION?

Then there are the situations and circumstances where someone that doesn't have a clue or is not part of the deal is involved and makes more trouble while making things more difficult for everyone. This is usually a family or friend member who likes stirring pots until they boil over

YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE

I cannot help what I see or hear when I have an experience of someone. It is what it is and if I am not clear or require more information, I generally ask at the risk of not knowing how that person will react. In the absence of that, I have only one other recourse

GOT PROFESSIONAL?

I turn on all my skills, talents and disciplines, stay focused and frosty and practice my virtues using the "rogue" individual to help me become better at what I do. I have actually thanked some very difficult people for helping me get a good work-out for the betterment of myself. Its like learning to love someone unlovable

TESTING GROUNDS

Its like testing a roof, or plumbing for leaks. If it holds after you put it through the paces, you got some solid equipment there. That be the professional who endures to the end successfully. Still, after so many years in this business, I can appreciate a smooth transaction when I get one and make allowances when I don't

Richie, You have such as great prospective on human interactions. My husband says all the time you find out what's "in" a person when they are squeezed.

Oh my - I recognized some of those people. One Mr. Pettybone in particular comes to mind.

Reading about all that makes me ever more grateful that I do what I do. No one of my clients will make or break my year, so I don't HAVE to put up with garbage.

When someone is difficult all I have to do is say "You need to find a different copywriter."

Of course I'm also grateful that 99% of my clients and prospective clients are wonderful people and I enjoy interacting with them.

Hello Stacey...your husband is a keeper. There are people pleasers and people squeezers. One goes along to get along the other wants to know what is going on?

Mark...yes of course to your comment. However, I look at every person and I know they came into the world baby blanket innocent. Fast forward to adult stage and lots of the cutesy is gone. What happened? Everything did... and what was learned can be unlearned..it must be. Always wise to monitor the self and house-clean

Marte...your commenting, which matches up with you, allows me to say that I am not surprised at your report about your success rate in interactions. I have read your posts, know your beliefs and I find you to be part of the solution

Praful...I see you are a man of depth. We never know how we will hold up and if our beliefs make sense until they are tested. The test determines this not our emotions, thoughts or intentions. Does the center hold?  Adversity, difficulty and people who practice/support those things come in handy as they help us to become better and overcome if we can stand their nonsense. Praful, a piece coal grows from pressure applied...if it doesn't crack up, a diamond will appear. This is proven

Virginia...I couldn't help but think of the word "spunk" when reading your comment. You remain a person of interest and thank you for visiting with me. Stagers always put their best foot forward and those that appreciate first impressions are glad that they do

Anna...another decent soul making their way the best they know how this Anna is. You know Anna, If someone knew what to do all the time, they would do it. But I was let in on a nice little secret that says..."they don't know what they do"  and "forgive them" by a very reliable source...I understand now

I have had those "difficult customers" push me to what I thought was beyond believable. In the end I found that I accomplished more than I thought possible. Can't say that the process was particularly enjoyable along the way.

Work isn't easy, that why it's called work!

It's just business...

Boy, have I come across a few of these folks, Richie. At the end of the day, you can only control how you react to their behavior. Those unsolicited opinions from family and friends have a way of getting into a client's ears. Congrats on the feature!

Brian...I am onboard and perspective is a powerful dynamic thank you. Its the same with people who disagree. I am always wanting to hear the other side...you just never know. You don't have to agree either.

As always, you can only control what you can control, and you can't let the other stuff, or other people get to you. Do your best to complete the transaction, and that's all you can do.

Richie, The practice of real estate is transactional, it's the people who make it difficult due to irrational behavior at times. We must study psycholgy and communication to make it all work!
