GARAGE SALES SELLING YOUR CAR AND FOR SALE BY OWNER

By

Having a garage sale? I have seen many variations of this. Some people just roll out their stuff to the driveway, set up a table and chairs, get a drink and wait and see what happens while others go all out advertising in advance, having their pricing ready, their items all set-up and I have even seen popcorn being given away on one occasion. Everyone has their version on this subject. Closely related to it are:

OH WHAT FUN

The for sale by owner event. Yes, it is the same principals at work. The A B C's of selling are present but lets be clear. This is no garage sale where peanuts are paid, take it or leave it dominates and if it sells fine and if it don't..who cares. There is a LOT (pun) more going on that a garage sale. The whole house is up and while fun, has a serious purpose

SAVE MONEY ELSEWHERE

Be careful of the driving force of trying to save money by doing it yourself. DIY? On something involving hundreds of thousands of dollars, contracts with small print, and hope for the best? Who is the "go to" for wrong or right doing? Who makes sure its over correctly when it is over? Statue of limitations runs four years. WHY? You tell me after you have reflected on this...

YOU OPEN YOUR HOUSE EVERYDAY

An open house is another one of those where anyone can do it and so be it. However, there are some that are conducted professionally that just attract good buyers and their agents who recognize value being advertised and displayed...Then, they act accordingly. Opening a home for sale is serious business. Wolfs can enter in with the sheep...Foxes can get in as well.

YEAR...MAKE...PRICE...CELL #

Selling your car? A sign in the window that travels wherever you go will produce results. Parking it on a busy street or intersection or even in a large visible parking lot will get the phone to ring. Meanwhile, it sits in your driveway or in front of your home. No need to go to a car dealer or consult with a professional...You get to play take it or leave it until you tire of it all and sell...

A WORD TO THE WISE

There is a time to get professional, hire-up and do good business and then there are other times. Knowing the difference can save you not just some heart-ache, but some money too.

Richie -  I am not sure I can deal with a garage sale.  We participated once with our neighbors and that was enough for me.  I did sale a car years ago with a sign but have not done so since.

We have been doing estate sales (3 in the last 6 weeks) and will have another this weekend.  We have not gone rock bottom on prices.  We manage to sell a lot of stuff on Craig's List, Amazon, and EBay.  We have a lot of quality items in value of $20.00 to $100.00 or so.  The problem is there are so many of them.  We will be putting them on line slowly as we do not want to dump at Garage Sale Prices.

LOL... this post is perfect! There are ways to get things sold and ways to screw it up. This is the very reason you DO hire a professional to make things happen!

diy is not the way to go when selling a home....most other things sure, but not a home.  I've had many many yard sales and I use all the marketing strategy I can when preparing.  It pays off.  It's a lot of work, but it's a lot of fun too.  I would imagine selling your own home to be quite stressful!
