a warm fire to warm byIt's That Time Of Year

It's that time of year I look forward to.  As a dual career agent (not a fan of the term "part time agent" because I don't think it fits what I do at all), it's that rare time of the year when I can set aside at least half of my workload for a couple of weeks as I take a break from the day job.  And since it's also the time of year in our market when my buyers also tend to be in "vacation" mode too, the real estate demands on my day drop a bit too.

It's the time of year when we first start seeing the signs of what the next year will bring.  Web requests for home valuations, buyer inquiries from potential relocators, etc.

It's the time of year when we get to visit family for Christmas and enjoy things we may not get to do the rest of the year.  A trip into the mountains of West Virginia and hoping to dodge a big snowfall while there.

It's the time of year that provides the opportunity to catch up on some personal recuperation time (hey, no 5:45 a.m. alarm clocks for a couple of weeks!).  The latest Tom Clancy books get read (okay, he may be RIP but his ghostwriters continue the money train of Jack Ryan novels).  It's time to catch up on a movie or two (The Hobbit's latest chapter has been enjoyed).

And it's time to work on some of those To Do items that have trouble making it to the top at other times (face it, when balancing two jobs, you have to be ruthlessly efficient with your priorities):

  • organizing posts for our WP site
  • more evaluation of what blog topics are working for us
  • planning for some 2015 activities to increase our business (and yes, blogging and our WP site definitely play big roles).
  • and working on adding the CRS designation (hallelujah for the Pro version as I've just finished a decade as an agent last July)
  • Assessing any end of year expenses to make before the calendar year turns over

Yep, it's that time of year again!

Bill & Liz, as I see it you have your day job and since Liz is FULL TIME seems like the sellers and buyer at the minimum get 1.5-1.8 agents for the same effort...on a side note I used to buy Ludlum books too and it just got too much his estate had an army of Ghost Writers...so I have walked  past the Tom Clancey book...many times and I  will wait until it becomes a "bargain book":)) If we do not connect have a Happy & Prosperous New Year, Endre

I like what Endre said, covers it perfectly. Sounds like you've got a lot to do in the next few days. This is the perfect time of year to get all the "housekeeping" stuff done before ramping up to the new year.

I'm not much of a book reader but I have been able to squeeze in a couple of puzzles.

Endre, I think over the course of the year I beat that .8 estimate :)   A lot of day job vacation days are turned into real estate work days (relo buyers, home inspections, c.e. classes, etc.).  And I've suspected that long before Clancy left this earth that others were doing the bulk of the writing.  I still enjoy the stories, and for about $20 a book when they're on sale at Kroger, it's still an enjoyable use of my $.  And when I'm done I pass them on to one of my brother-in-laws who likes the Jack Ryan series.

Bryan, I used to get some downtime on business trips, but I switched roles a year and a half ago, so my trip out your way back in early 2013 was my last business travel.  And I used to read a LOT of books, but now it's pretty much Christmas break, and during the year it's magazines, online stories and a lot of blog posts.

Roger, And glad it's back for another round.

Beth, It's beautiful country any time of year!  My parents live in a mountain valley in a VERY small town (no stop lights at all!).  It's such a change of pace to go back in there every year and brings back a lot of childhood memories of visits to my grandfather's.

I've got to make some time to get my 2015 business planning done.  I have the ideas of what I want to do in my head, but nothing written down.

BLiz- never in my time of 'knowing" you have I ever thought of you as a Part Time agent... dual career, Yes.  And it is one you wear well. Enjoy your time off, have fun skiing and reading.  I will always remember the first Tom Clancy book I read- Hunt for Red October.  I'll have to pick up one of his by his ghostwriters.

Jenna, Already gone and back, a short visit this year prior to Christmas!

Chris Ann, Similar here, not in writing but I know what needs done.

Kathy, I try not to ever let one affect the other.  Enough flexibility with both jobs that neither gets negatively impacted by the other and my real estate clients always know I'm also an engineer.

And THFRO is the first one I read too.  Haven't missed a Jack Ryan novel since and Tom Clancy's substitute was working with him prior to his passing, so no real shift in the book quality since.

Bliz, it is, isn't it. So many things to get caught up on, so little time. Let your down time be your priority. Hope you get to finish a book too. Good Luck!

It's been business as usual around here for me. Even though buyers and sellers have checked out the past few weeks I've still kept pretty busy preparing for the time when they'll come roaring back in to the market!
