The good news? They are doing us all a favor. How? The ones that do know a thing or two shine in their presence or in their wake. The ignorant or passing through agent makes the career minded professional stand-out providing a contrast not only the consumer but for the industry as well. The uncommitted haunt us all
THE BALANCE
The bad news is that many consumers will not get the services they are entitled too and wont even know about those services but form an opinion claiming all agents fail and they can do better. I wont argue either point, but I know of people & places to go for just about any service or purpose and they all perform to my expectations...You have to search them out and it is not hard to do
LOOK FOR THE GOOD
I don't go gravitate to services or places that don't perform and I definitely don't back to anything that doesn't make it right the first time. Case in point: I visited with a newly opened restaurant that after doing some research, I decided to go give it a try. I have been in the restaurant business and know what to look for even behind the scenes too. Now, for the test....
YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE
When I pointed out that my hamburger was a "ball" on a bun instead of a patty that filled the bun, I got an argument. When I brought in two coupons and tried to use them, I was told you can only use one but no where is that stated. I wont be back. Promises and expectations are at work and must be honored
OBJECTIVITY IS GOLD
I have had a chance to meet quite a few non-performing agents as expected from sitting on grievance and professional standards hearings. It is interesting to note that when you hear a case in regards to a transaction, what should be done and what was done stand out very clearly to the observer.
WHERES THE BROKER?
Furthermore, it is interesting to note how people fail to make good, reason things out, apologize or attempt to start over and instead makes things worse where it escalates into a hearing, a complaint or a lawsuit. There are many phases of correction that when presented can be dealt with right there
THE EGO IS A POOR AMIGO
Failure to deal with the intruder problem makes the situation compound and grow into something that is not so easy to contain or redirect and the next thing you know, you got yourself a serious disagreement. The time to "nip it" was when it was in its infant and weak stages. Egos don't see this
CONNECTION IS MANDATORY
What people don't allow for, what they are not explained, and I am speaking of all parties to a transactions is simply this: Real Estate is an emotionally driven business. Feelings come out, statements are made and good intentions abound but at some point, the value and what is presented has to gel and make sense. The phrase "meeting of the minds" is no myth. It is our destination
STAY CALM AND STAY THE COURSE
People who expose themselves via their reactive feelings open themselves up to being vulnerable and that smarts. Of course human nature requires a "tit for tat" as a knee jerk reaction and if that ball is returned, we got ourselves a genuine distraction and expensive tangent starting to to take shape. There are agents that excel at making problems
BORROWED TIME
The more seasoned agents are aware of these dynamics and then some and course correct. The agent who is indifferent, inexperienced or irresponsible and is practicing wont be for long. Why? The business and the circumstance will weed them out. Until then, they provide a stark contrast to the professional agent
THE VAST SEA OF REAL ESTATE
I am reminded that a Real Estate license gives access to many to be able to practice the numerous different fields of Real Estate. However, it is like a pilots license in a way. Pilots who have logged in "hours" are considered seasoned. The actual act of flying produces the necessary experience...same for any practice providing competence and desire to become a professional kicks in
LOVE IT or LEAVE IT
If you love this business and have been in it for any length of time, you have traveled the learning curves, visited with your faux pas, are not stranger to trial & error and have learned from your mistakes. If you don't love this business, it has a way of not loving you back.....
