Desktop Hoarder -- Help!!!

It's the start of a new year (I'm a little late this year) and one of my resolutions was to declutter and simplify everything, starting with my home office area. First stop this morning was my computer, that's where I discovered I'm a "desktop hoarder"!

I save everything in folders, neatly labled on my computer. My desktop is pretty full. I can see my kids cringing now as they start up my computer when I need some tech help. Seems I like to save everything there.

Folders of pictures (good and bad, plus their duplicates), articles that I want to read or blog about some day, a few games to chill out with when I'm stressed, a to do folder, a great ideas folder from the last company I was with, my daily folder, recipes folder, craft ideas folder, you name it I have a folder for it.

I know this started the last time I wanted to clean up my desktop, it was messy and I organized it with folders. Now, the folders have taken over! Any ideas out there to help a fellow desktop hoarder?! I promise not to put the ideas in a folder ;-) After this little exercise, I'm cleaning out my bookmarks/favorites!!

Kim, I am guilty too. I clean it up and soon the desktop is cluttered again.

I clean up at least every couple of weeks.   All my emails are in folders, but save to a .pdf and put on a disc in the client's folder to save space.  Good luck on getting this accomplished!

Kim I clean it up quite often because it can get out of hand pretty darn fast.  Good luck with your clean up in 2016.

Kim, I feel this is a matter of how we like to work.  I have 2-4 things on my desktop. I clean up up every night before I shut down.  I put everything in folders ... just not on my desktop. I would not be able to find anything if everything was on my desktop.  Indeed I have 2-3 clicks away from what I need ... but it works for me.

Hey Kim,  I keep only real important stuff that I need to get done/address as items on my desktop.  Everything else is in folders within folders within folders.  So my desktop looks pretty clean and I get to see the my latest screen background instead of a bunch of folders.  Example.  Everything real estate related is nested in a folder with that name. Probably the same thing Kathleen Daniels does.
