Robert Ashby

Look up in the sky.... it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Robert D. Ashby.....mortgage planner by day and pilot by night. Okay, sometimes it's the other way around. Robert is a pilot for American Airlines, but he also owns his on mortgage company. And most importantly, Robert Ashby is a Mortgage Planner and not just a loan officer. You might ask what a mortgage planner is?  It's a cross between a loan officer and a financial planner/adviser.

In any case, I had the pleasure of meeting Robert two Saturdays ago when he e-mailed me that Thursday telling me that he was arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday morning. Robert was one of the first 5 AR members that I started talking to on here when I first joined. That was back in October of '06 and we started talking on the phone by December.  When we first met, even though it was for about 4 hours, I got to know the person behind the flight attire.

Robert Ashby

So a week later, I get another e-mail from Robert on Saturday, telling me that he will be back in the Philadelphia area on Sunday night, leaving Tuesday morning. So I decided to meet up with him for a few hours on Sunday evening and for part of Monday. Robert is the one in the black jacket with cap. He brought along his co-pilot, George, who is also a Colonel in the reserves.

Overall, we had a great time. We first went to Moriarty's Restaurant/Irish Pub for a few drinks. Then down the street for a quick bite and then onto a few other places. The more I hung out with Robert, the more we had a lot in common, especially when it came to the mortgage business. Not only is Robert just a good, down to earth guy, but he really goes the extra mile in not only giving his clients options, but that he cares about them and their finances. You don't find that in every loan originator in this business. I just wanted to say, it was great to meet a true mortgage professional as myself. Looking forward to it again Robert.....

If you want to get to know more about Robert Ashby's style, here are two great reads. The first one has to be one of the best written mortgage blogs ever posted on Active Rain and I am not the only one that agrees with this.

And here are two more reasons why Robert Ashby is on top of his game and more people should listen to him. Take the serious time to read these, because more people need to think like this.  Please read :

Jason Sardi

On another note, if you know this person, tell him that he missed out on a good time. Jason Sardi was going to try and meet us out Monday night, but he said that he was working hard.  I am not sure if the Cayman Islands can be classified as work, but we'll just chuck it up to Jason missing a great person from the mortgage industry. Jason, next time my friend. I hope the Caymans, aka work, was worth it.

J...cool post.  I just commented in a similar vein about financial responsibility...see The Age of Personal Financial Responsibility.  Sounds to me like mr. Pilot, LO, Mortgage Planner fits the bill to the hilt.  Didn't Sardi used to belong to AR?  Not sure...the name sounds familiar though.

Jeff, since my emails are not reaching you. Here is what my support people said:

I reviewed all of the logs for each address that you sent me.  I found all of the messages accepted and delivered to each respective server.  I only exception is the message that was sent to: jbelonger@ihmci.com.  I did not find any entries on our outbound servers, I believe that this was sent using a different Outgoing server.  I hope this helps. Thanks.

I am waiting on a call back in 20 minutes to work on it. Because even though you didn't get my 3 responses I know others did not either, 3 clients and Ines.

Jeff - I have seen some of his blogs before and you both seem to have all the experience in the world!  I can't believe he does both!  Does he sleep?   Next time I come up to New jersey I would love to pick your brain and meet you as well.  :)

LARRY....   that Sardi character?  Not sure...  I think his brother is on this site...  In any case, yes, Robert would fit into that group teaching and educating financial responsibility to the consumer.

JASON......  my tab?   lol   That's why we wanted you to come down.  Since you didn't, we drank water all night.... lol   Seriously, yes, we had fun. But in regards to those swimsuit pics?  Please keep them to yourself... lol

ROB.....  who are you?  I think you moved up in your company and forgot about us little people..... lol   Call me next year, maybe we'll set something up.  lol

JANET......   I am working on San Fran for July... but it might conflict with a family vacation that we have been doing for 5 years in a row now.  In regards to your FHA questions...  I did reply back today in regards to the one that you sent me yesterday. Any others, just e-mail me.  thanks

MISSY......  yea yea yea.... you don't love me anymore...  ;o(    Thanks for the update.

NAOMA.......  well, thank you very much for those kind words.  I am sure Robert appreciates them also. You said next time?  Have you made trips to NJ before?  In any case, yes, if you are ever in the area, just give me a call.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for pilots who have second businesses.  It's not easy to be flying all day and still be productive.  I know first hand because I have a son who flies for Jet Blue.  Kudos to Robert and much continued success.

LOL! I'm watching Smallville on my DVR while I'm commenting. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's that REALLY hot guy that plays Clark Kent on Smallville!

Sorry, I got a bit distracted. As for the topic at hand; good post as always. Keep up the informative postings.

AA, I know them well, I'm a lifetime Gold member. With almost 2 million miles.  I used to live in Dallas, then Phl (lived in Cherry Hill for 7 years), so I've always flown AA. Back in the day I was a Platinum member and in the top 2% of Freq. Fliers in the world.  Yes, American treated me well, until I started flying SWA....living in Houston, Hobby was more convenient, and American went through DFW, wasn't convenient.  I work with a lot of pilots, nice guys!

Jeff - Thanks for the kind words.  I was glad we could spend a little more time talking this trip.  Also, the other guy is the Captain, just for the record.

Larry - I will read your post, but I would guess I fit the bill.  I am actually about to launch a new blog over at www.fiscaldisciplineblog.com that I am describing as "personal finance for the 21st century".  I need to get a few posts up there and clean up the links, but I expect it to be ready for formal launch by May 1st.

Jason - You snooze, you lose.  Hopefully I will get back to PHL, but it will likely be at least 2 months from now.  I will be venturing through Denver, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas most likely for the next month or two as I will be flying "domestic" trips for May and maybe beyond.

Rob - I put out a post a long time ago asking who would like to meet up when I visit their area.  I am going to post one again to ensure I have an updated list, so look for it soon and just let me know.

Janet - Same for you on the "sign up to meet Robert" sheet.  I may be out in your area in the next month or so.

Naoma - Sleep?  What is that?  Yes I do sleep once in a while.  I can usually run very well on 6 hours of sleep and my best thoughts are usually late night anyway.  I get a lot of ideas while flying as well, believe it or not, but I lose some of them since I can't read my own handwriting and I don't use the computer in the cockpit, except for reading flight manuals.

Diane - Thanks, and yes it is tough.  And believe it or not, I decided to start another business as well.

Lisa - Thanks for the compliment on my looks.  Oh sorry, I see you meant the other superman.

Cindy - I can definitely understand the switch, but by doing so, can't experience my other exceptional service.

Thanks again to all for the kind words and hopefully I will get to meet more of you in my travels.
