This Could Be Hot

Have you seen one of these?

Antique Firepot

Working with very special older homes, I get to see some wonderful items.

The one above could be hot.

This covered pot is not very big and hangs on the fireplace.

When in use, the pot contains kerosene and the ceramic ball with

wand is submersed in the liquid.

One just needs to light the  ceramic base and it makes starting a fire so easy.

Have you seen one of these in use?

Below is a photo of the living room and dining room at

37 Sherwood Road.

Take a look at the bottom right of the photo and to the left of the fireplace.

Can you see the fire-pot hanging next to the fireplace opening?

Very cool feature.  I have read about this in novels, but didn't know anyone who has preserved it.

What a wonderful home!

I don't ever recall seeing a fire pot in a home!  But, this is California!  I will say this, that's a gorgeous home that fire pot is hanging in!

I'm glad you knew what it was, so you could clue the rest of us in!   Apparently you're the only one who could identify the fire pot.

Grant Schneider So far you are the only one, other than me, who has seen this fire starter. Joan Dickie  has read about them.

Would certainly not pass any kind of safety codes today.

Today I was showing this house to a family with five beautiful children. I had everyone guess, including the agent and parents. Not one knew what it was. It was fun listening to all the kids, big and little, try to figure it out.
