Tonight was stock up night at the local grocery store, gathering the ingredients for our Thanksgiving meal: ham, pie fixings, stuffing ingredients, multiple types of potatoes for some scalloped potatoes and a few other items here and there. For the most part everything on the list was on the shelves and ready. Last year I made the mistake of looking for pecan halves just before Thanksgiving and that led to a mad scramble to find the last of them!
Obviously, it pays to get to the store early before the last minute shoppers hit the store!
Well the same thing applies to home shopping in more ways than one!
- When considering new construction, the last buyers in get the "leftovers", the lots no one else wanted. And the available floor plans might be limited too, as most builders don't want SAME-SAME next door to each other!
- If you're renting and got a time line to buy a home, you need to consider that unless you're a cash buyer, if we go out TODAY and find THE ONE, you're still 30-45 days from closing under normal circumstances. And that's assuming there's a home out there that will do. If you're shopping, especially this time of year when inventory is tight, avoid the stress of last minute home shopping and give yourself plenty of time to find the right home!
And the last minute thing doesn't apply to just home buyers either!
- For home sellers, get an early jump on preparing your home for sale, or your going to get stressed trying to make all the fixes we requested to get the best sales price for your home. Besides, you know Murphy and if you wait to the last minute, THAT will be the day something totally unexpected happens!
- Don't stall on starting your packing for the move either! You have no idea how much stuff you have until you've got to get it all in boxes and on the moving van!
So avoid the last minute stress with your home activities! And by the way, you might want to get to the grocery store ASAP before all the pecan halves are gone!!
