La Jolla Cove
One of my favorite hangouts is La Jolla Cove. Especially when the surf is crashing in, it actually splashes the pathway above the coastline. La Jolla Cove has a large grass area for picnics, sports, naps and people watching. I often flop and read my books there or walk my dog in the cove.
It has a nice walking path for exploring and taking in the views. You have beach access on both sides of the park, (Shell Beach to the south and The Cove to the North) and if you are up for the walk, The Children's Pool doubles as refuge for the seals/sea lions and offers a walkway out into the crashing waves.
They host concerts here, a big July 4 fireworks show and many other social functions; even weddings. The cove is a protected marine reserve, so the snorkeling and diving is rich with sea life and colors. (But no surfing, boogie boards or inflatable mattresses allowed and obviously no fishing either. Lifeguards are on duty during "the season".
Outdoor showers and public restrooms are on-site in the park.
There are also caves adjacent to La Jolla Cove; accessible by kayak or conveniently the 145 stairs from The Cave Store down the tunnel to Sunny Jim's Cave and I'll let you visit to learn why it's named that.
The historic La Jolla Bridge Clubenjoys spectacular views of The Pacific and of course LJ Cove itself. Built in 1939, it's situated between beautiful gardens and the Cove's cliffs on what's know n as Point La Jolla. This facility is available to rent out for weddings and parties.
I also enjoy the hotels and restaurants the surround the cove and take advantage of it's "Bella Vistas". I enjoy Cody's for breakfast and The La Valencia Hotel for lunch and Happy Hour.
If you are planning a trip to La Jolla, CA or considering buying a home here, I'm never too busy to be of service to you as a local resource and/or as your Realtor.
