Yes, There’s Another Los Angeles Election

California 34th Congressional District Special Election, Tuesday, April 4, 2017

On Tuesday, April 4, 2017 a special election will be held to choose the member of the United States House of Representatives for California’s 34th congressional district.  If needed, a runoff will take place on June 6, 2017.

There are 24 candidates(including one write-in) running, so the likelihood of a runoff is pretty high.  You can read about the candidates in a special Los Angeles Times link I have included here including where to vote on Tuesday.

Voting in Los Angeles

The district is located primarily within the city of Los Angeles and includes the following neighborhoods:  Boyle Heights, Chinatown, City Terrace, Cypress Park, Downtown Los Angeles, Eagle Rock, El Sereno, Garvanza, Glassell Park, Hermon, Highland Park, Koreatown, Little Bangladesh, Little Tokyo, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Monterey Hills, Mount Washington, Sycamore Grove and Westlake.

The seat is open due to the appointment of former Representative Xavier Becerra who was nominated and confirmed to be Attorney General for the State of California.  Becerra succeeds Kamala Harris who became United States Senator in November, 2016 replacing the retired Barbara Boxer.

If you live in the district and are eligible to vote, I encourage you to do so. And if you are considering a move in one of the neighborhoods of the 34th Congressional District and want to know more about area real estate, please contact me at 818.516.4393 cell.  Let’s discuss what is important to you whether you are thinking of buying or selling.   Or maybe both.

At least I recognize many of the neighborhoods, Michael, and it's all due to your blog posts.

Local elections are just as important, in some cases perhaps more so, than national elections. But people are so reluctant to vote. They say they don't know who the candidates are or their vote doesn't count, and it's such a defeatist attitude.

Kudos to you for getting out the word and encouraging people to do their patriotic and civil duty.

Michael Jacobs Representative Xavier Becerra was well known and liked in the district, it will not easy to replace him despite 24 candidates entered the election.

Thank you for your comments.  It is an interesting lineup of candidates and while I'm pretty sure there will be a run-off, I do hope the turnout is better than is typical in this district.

Michael I swear they do this in the middle when no one is looking to get their agendas slipped in... it is sad in a way, there was an election in March too... no one knows how it turned out....my guess in favor of the Political Elite...Endre

Hi Endre Barath, Jr. -- there is some logic behind the timing of this election. Attorney General Becerra did not give up his congressional seat until he was confirmed which was after former AG Kamala Harris was sworn in as US Senator.   Governor Brown could not officially call for this election for a period of time after Becerra gave up his seat.   It sounds a bit convoluted because I think the process is more than a bit confusing by nature.   Well, in my opinion....the amount of $$$ being spent and the phone calls being made will likely result in a very low turnout...very discouraging.
