Thankful for Trying Something New

By

Sometimes you have to experiment and try something new or different.

I never cared for cranberry sauce although I know that many people do like it. So while shopping the other day for Thanksgiving dinner items, I saw fresh cranberries and on a whim decided to buy some.

I didn't even know what I wanted to do with them nor did I have a recipe for them but I thought maybe I would make some sort of bread with fresh cranberries.

Once home, I decided to keep it simple and try a sauce. I cooked the cranberries according to the recipe on the bag but added a finely chopped Granny Smith apple, a stick of cinnamon, 4-5 cloves, and reduced the sugar to 2/3 of a cup.

The result was delicious. Nice color, it smelled great, and a great taste, a little tart and very fruity.

We decided to have it hot over Vanilla ice cream!  Maybe not the traditional way to enjoy cranberry sauce but definitely one way I love it!

The experiment was successful and I'm thankful for trying something new.

Did your cranberries pop when you cooked them? Mine do and that makes it more fun. The result is a sweet fresh and healthy treat.

That's a great way to enjoy cranberries, Silvia. We make a great cold relish for Thanksgiving with sugar, cranberries, and orange.

Trying new things out in the kitchen is fun, isn't it? At least if it turns out well!!

Back in Sweden, we have what they call lingonberries. They grow in the forest and are ready to be picked in the fall.

"Noun. allemansrätt c. (law, uncountable) freedom to roam; a Scandinavian and Scottish custom that supports free movement of people through public lands and their gathering of some renewable resources therefrom, benefiting from the implicit and explicit support from law and constitution."

Love cranberries too!
