Love Means Giving to Those in Need
This was a staging where I met the client only once and we probably exchanged fewer than 200 words.
Stepping into the “way back” machine once again, this was when the market and economy were in the tank.
I’d met a wonderful agent through the Women’s Council of Realtors who began handling a lot of short sales. She learned everything she could about them and as a consequence began to get many referrals.
She called me one day and asked if I would be interested in helping someone and donating my services. She went on to tell me that she donates her time and commission to one client a year.
And this client needed a lot of help. He lived alone in a home that he inherited from his father. It was a very modest home in need of repairs, landscaping, cleaning, editing, or a bulldozer.
The house was in a good location, not far from the beaches and she wanted to get as much for the seller as she could so he could move on to a “right-sized” home that didn’t require as much maintenance.
Mr. Seller had some issues that prevented him from taking much of an active part in the preparation for the sale.
The agent and I arrived at his house and as I said before, he was a man of very few words. As I walked through the house and made suggestions, he listened and nodded, but I had the feeling that if anything was going to get done it was going to be by the agent and her crew.
Oh yes, did I mention that she was paying for a landscaper and bringing in her family and a small crew to help clean and edit?
I worked with some of the items in the living room and kitchen but couldn’t do much more until the house was edited and cleaned.
In so many ways this situation was a sad one and yet it also renewed my faith in people.
This agent’s desire and commitment to give back and to help someone even at a time when many agents were struggling made me realize that no matter what anyone has or doesn’t have, they always have something they can give to others.
