Love Means Giving to Those in Need

This was a staging where I met the client only once and we probably exchanged fewer than 200 words.

Stepping into the “way back” machine once again, this was when the market and economy were in the tank.

I’d met a wonderful agent through the Women’s Council of Realtors whobefore curb appeal began handling a lot of short sales. She learned everything she could about them and as a consequence began to get many referrals.

She called me one day and asked if I would be interested in helping someone and donating my services. She went on to tell me that she donates her time and commission to one client a year.

And this client needed a lot of help. He lived alone in a home that he inherited from his father. It was a very modest home in need of repairs, landscaping, cleaning, editing, or a bulldozer.

The house was in a good location, not far from the beaches and she wanted to get as much for the seller as she could so he could move on to a “right-sized” home that didn’t require as much maintenance.

Mr. Seller had some issues that prevented him from taking much of an active part in the preparation for the sale.

The agent and I arrived at his house and as I said before, he was a man of very few words.  As I walked through the house and made suggestions, he listened and nodded, but I had the feeling that if anything was going to get done it was going to be by the agent and her crew.

Oh yes, did I mention that she was paying for a landscaper and bringing in her family and a small crew to help clean and edit?

I worked with some of the items in the living room and kitchen but couldn’t do much more until the house was edited and cleaned.

In so many ways this situation was a sad one and yet it also renewed my faith in people.

This agent’s desire and commitment to give back and to help someone even at a time when many agents were struggling made me realize that no matter what anyone has or doesn’t have, they always have something they can give to others.

Truly this is a heartwarming story. We've all pitched in from time to time to help clients who needed us. This is a perfect example of giving without expecting anything in return.

It doesn't surprise me that this agent did short sales. It takes a certain amount of compassion for the sellers involved to do it, more so than selling non short sales.

There have been several times when I have encountered sellers who for one reason or another required assistance.  I have found ways to help where I could.

Joe Pryor well that's one reason! And thankfully, you don't have to be rich to be giving.

Wayne Martin she became the one many agents and attorneys turned to when short sales started first started happening here.

Pat Starnes, Brandon, MS everything doesn't always have to be about money,!

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents good point. I'm not sure if others would have helped, thinking that it was far below a pricepoint they worked. But thank goodness for her.

Kathy there is always someone in more need than us, no matter how limited the resources may be.  Even if we only have a penny, there is most likely someone who needs it more than us.

Deja vu! Between 2006 - 2010 I did a lot of short sales and foreclosures. People really needed help. There were many houses I had to clean, haul in dirt, plant flowers, move furniture, and console the owners who all had serious problems and it was a very depressing time for so many people. Those were very tough years on me too; yet I managed to help and succeed but watching them walk away was so hard. Although the thanked me, sincerely thanked me, I know they were emotionally scarred and scared. In the end, 80% of the banks did not pay for my hard work because in the 12th hour, the Bank b basically told me, no, they didn't have the money to pay, like they thought they could.

I learned, sometimes, money can't be counted on but when people who really need other people have someone to count on, it is a blessing and not a monetary reward.

Kathy there are two types of people, those who give and the others who take... the more wealth you have the more you give if you are a giver.... the more you have the less you give if you are a taker... check out the affluent players of the Globe and it will confirm what I just said... now to your post GOOD FOR YOU!!!Endre
