I’ve not met a real estate agent who does not think he/she is “worth every penny of the commission” he/she charges a client. How many times have you heard the client say those exact words? You’re worth every penny of that commission? Our job is to move a client from point A to point B with a smoothly flowing transaction, and we have not earned nor are we worthy of “squat” until papers are passed and the deed is recorded.
I seem to hear that statement continually from real estate agents when it’s time to put the deal together, and the buyer and seller have been wrung out. When it’s time to fill in a small gap that neither buyer nor seller will or can do, how many agents will say “I’m not doing that. I’m worth every penny of my commission.”
Filling that small gap has nothing to do with whether or not you’re worthy of a commission. It has everything to do with “putting that deal to bed.” It has everything to do with closing another one. It’s not a measure of what you’re worth, but it IS a measure of how professional you are and how committed to moving your clients from point A to point B as quickly as possible with as little resistance as possible.
When we run into that type of personality who claims “I never give away my commission….I’m worth every penny of it” we will put up the difference and make it all go away!!! That agent is worthless in my book. Who brain washed this type of agent to think he/she can turn his back on the client with the simple statement of “I’m worth every penny of my commission?” That’s a statement that goes up my butt sideways!!!
Just expressing my opinion and sharing that thought for the moment….
