Hidden Gem for Japanese Fine Dining in Honolulu

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

When I asked Hella where she wanted to go for dinner on Friday night in Honolulu, she suggested we choose a restaurant at my hotel. That seemed fine with me. So I called the Japanese restaurant at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel. Did not view the menu or even check out the location. Just knew there was a floor level button for it in the elevator.

We had tickets to see Patton Oswalt at the Blue Note in Waikiki, so we chose an early dinner time of 6 PM. The hotel called to say if we came at 6 PM, the kitchen would be backed up and we would wait forever for our meal. They suggested 5:30. It didn't really make sense. But when we walked by the hallway to a separate dining hall, it was apparent. There we spied long tables filled with what looked like almost 50 Japanese guests, some sort of special celebration for the end of New Year's, I imagine.

Which gave us a front row seat in the dining room to watch the sunset and sailboat Regatta. Oh, we had no idea what was in store for us. You can read more and see a lot more photographs in my personal blog today at this link: Miyako Restaurant at the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel.

Joan Cox I'm glad I asked about the upgrade, too. I remember when we stayed at the Crown Plaza in downtown Anchorage, and the room they brought us to had musty shag carpeting like a throwback to the '60s, and my husband thought I was being overly dramatic when I asked for a better room. When we got it, though, he was much happier. He doesn't understand we don't have to accept what life hands us.

Patton Oswalt is hilarious, and a native Northern Virginian.  The food in your new found Japanese restaurant sounds delightful.
