The 120th Golden Dragon Parade

10:00 AM — Street Closure starts
1:00 PM — Parade Starts
3:30 PM — Parade Ends
5:00 PM — Street Reopens
Some of you might remember I have written about this great event a few years ago, since it is the 120th I thought it could use some extra attention for those of you who might have missed it or who might want to have a great time at this event.
This event is sponsored and presented by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles. There are anticipated over one hundred thousand individuals to line up on the Parade Route. This parade is worth seeing, if not each year, at least once in a life time. The Colorful Parade is along North Broadway in Chinatown. Over the years it has become a premiere cultural event in the Southern California Asian-American Community.
The Golden Dragon Parade has expanded over the years to almost two dozen floats, numerous marching bands and soon it will start rivaling the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. Numerous government officials, dignitaries, local business leaders and cultural groups participate. The parade is rich in ethnic diversity and the focus of course is on the Chinese culture and exposure to local Chinese-America businesses.
Just to give you a little historical perspective Bruce Lee has been the Grand Marshal of the Parade. Since then David Carradine of TV “Kung Fu” fame has also been one of the Grand Marshals and many others including Dr. Having S. Ngor from the movie “The Killing Fields”. Anyway, there were many others I just wanted to give you a taste.
