Motivational Monday...What Do You WANT to See?

There has been a thought wandering through my head that many people out there are choosing to see the negative in people and in certain situations.

All you have to do is listen or read news commentaries, opening monologues optimismfor talk shows, and of course, many of the posts on social media. (it’s one reason why I gave up watching any awards shows and late-night tv)

Even in having conversations with friends, there are times I want to turn around and walk away or hang up rather than be brought down by their negative perspective on all things...the virus, politics, children going back to school, pro-sports, and the list goes on.

We see what we are looking for. If you have a negative mindset, then I can guarantee you will find the negative or less appealing feature of any person or situation.

Nothing is perfect. No one is perfect. That’s the way life is. There are and will continue to be things (and people) in life that cannot be described as anything but bad, disheartening, despicable, and even evil.

However,99% of the time, I can guarantee you that what you see and find in life will have everything to do with what you’re looking for.

I try to look on all the great things God's done, and not focus on the negative. It's a perspective. Joel Osteen

We'll see what we focus on, which is why I like being an optimist!

Long ago I saw nothing but negativity on the news and stopped watching it.  It now seems to be more common with any type of media including social and it is sad.

We also focus on the positive. And, I always limit my intake of any and all news.

Hi Kathy,

I feel the same way much of the time.  Negativity seems to pervail much in shows on tv, news (especially) and even with friends.

When dealing with friends I politely (most of the time) steer them away from talking about some of these things.  I'd rather see the 'glass half full'.

I just use a smaller glass so my glass is always full.

When I practiced mixed martial arts, we would start every workout with a symbolic gesture that meant, "look for the good."  It is easy to find fault, but much more enlightening to find the good.  For the last test that I took, I had to do many acts of kindness, so many that we had to find people to be kind too.  It is so rare that people did not trust me or my motives.  It led to many funny episodes.  I miss my martial arts training, but it still shapes me today.  "Look for the good!"

Kathy,

As you may be remember we cut our cable 4-5 years ago.  We do not turn on the news.  Just a headline feed that we rarely follow. Social media is limited to AR.  I even avoid those negative posts here on AR...A

Kathy I have met people who aren't happy unless they are complaining about something.  That is a sad way to live.

Wayne Martin that sounds so scary...please stay safe.

Kat Palmiotti isn't that a funny one!

The sad thing Donald Urschalitz is that the bar has been lowered when it comes to education. We pass our children from grade to grade and don't care if they can read.

Me too Lottie Kendall It makes life a lot easier.

Brian England I agree and I think there are a lot of people who have turned off the news and some social media because they are tired of being brought down.

Same here Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD And a few years ago I stopped watching the awards shows and talk shows.

Jeffrey Richman many of us have limited the news we watch and if I come across anything negative on a social platform, I keep walking on by. I think that many people think it's "in vogue" to put everything and everyone down.

Raymond Henson, SRES, GRI I agree about the training. My brother took karate when he was younger and now his grandsons are taking Taekwando. I went to one of their classes and I love how they begin each session.

Roy Kelley I wish you and Chef Dolores the same.

I do remember that Ron and Alexandra Seigel I skim the headlines and catch our local news but that's' it.  Right now The Weather Channel what we've been watching.

Grant Schneider You've probably seen a lot of what a negative attitude can do when you're coaching your clients.

Will Hamm We're still keeping up with what's going on but we're avoiding any negative or biased news.   I agree, we do have to know what's going on.

Sharon Tara me too. I love whatever can make me laugh.

You're right George Souto I know people just like that and those people don't like themselves much.

Morning Kathy.

Negativity abounds, exactly why when I need to know what's going on, I watch only one channel.  Big week this week, lots of things happening
