Choosing Battles

Obstacles are a part of life.  Some seem more evident at times than others.  Bigger.  More severe or serious.

It may not take too long to understand but the struggle seems to continue for many.   There are some who “deal” with these challenges better than others.  Everyone moves and learns at his or her own pace.

The subject of “battles” has been on my mind so I take yet another trip down Tangent Alley to seek some quotes that might add clarity.

Sure, there were lots of words that might be expected on the subject but I was struck by this one.

The battle to win -

on the pitch and in the boardroom

begins in one’s head.

                                                         Sourav Ganguly

The author is a former national cricket team captain in India and an administrator in the sport.  I have little to no knowledge of cricket let alone the person or his job title but I do like finding quotes that give me an opportunity to ponder and continue to learn.

Definitely not a new thought but nice to learn a bit more.  And on different levels.   Choosing battles takes place in many different locations.  Not only on the traditional battlefield.

Wayne Martin - true.  While the thoughts he expressed are not new, this quote stood out to me for a variety of reasons.

Michael, good subject this morning!   I am not married, so no battles there, but in real estate I try to stay away from battles, but negotiate respectfully.

We are being faced with continuing political battles that can become very frustrating. Stay calm and be cool.

Hi Michael Jacobs, lucky for us, we can pick and choose which battles we want to face. Once the decision is made, the winning strategies will flow.

Joan Cox - ones marital status may have little(or a lot) to do with settling/ winning battles.  The same for real estate.  I imagine that strategy and finesse become a part of the discussion along with some other factors.

Roy Kelley - so many potential battlefields.  Choose wisely.

Beth Atalay - with an abundance, the opportunity to select can open possibilities.

Michael,

What an interesting post, and equally interesting comments that it generated.  Most battles are not worth the fight or the agony it can generate...One of our agents was a many degrees black belt told us a story about his master.. He never engaged in battle, but he was always prepared, and no one ever challenged him.  A

I don't mind challenges in my life, I am definitely used to overcoming them by now, haha.  It is always better when we can see the light at the end of the tunnel though.

Good afternoon Michael Jacobs ,

A great post and topic to read on this rainy day in Austin. I've not heard of this quote from Sourav Ganguly and certainly one to ponder. I've always felt every battle does not need to be engaged in..some are not worth my time and efforts.

Alexandra Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I agree with you about comments.  I believe they add to any topic.  Of course, they also add to pondering.

Brian England - certainly hiking and any sports-related event involves challenges.  Whether it be a team effort or one tackled alone, this is one way we learn to grow.

Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR - No rain in our forecast - I hope the precipitation brings forth a good weekend in Austin.

Any challenge I believe is won in the head first. If you believe you can do it, you will find a way, relentlessly pursuing your goal.

I find the inner battles are what tear most folks apart. The struggles created from an erroneous belief that life is hard. That attitude permeates everything and can create battles with others too. Unhappiness and dissatisfaction is good fuel for fighting. Sigh, who the heck has time?
