April Challenge...Some Tips for Local Posts
It’s been a while since many of us have written posts showcasing our local events and places to go. Because of the virus, many were restricted from attending events and many places were closed.
But it’s 2021 and it’s time to brush off the dust and write some local posts. (There’s also the April Challenge...Time to Get Out and Show Off Your Area)
Here are some tips that might help…
-Put the Contact information above the fold line.
If you remember newspapers, you want to put important information “above the fold line.” For your post, place the when, where, and contact information so that readers can see it! Bold it if you can.
I’ve been called several times from my local posts wanting to know if they can bring their dog to the orchid show! Don’t bury their number.
-Use your own photos when you can
It lends a lot of credibility if you include your own photos! Don't step on any copyright toes!
-Put in links to the event/place website
Link to the event or place website and any other pertinent information.
-Add a map
Bill Spear wrote a post about using Google Maps to highlight your area but it could also work for local events.
-Add personal insights
I learned this from Bob Stewart. You really will stand out like the local expert if you can add your own personal tips about the event or place.
Give suggestions about where to park or when to go. Point out something that you really enjoyed!!!
If you need more tips or suggestions, check out the local blogs from Nina Hollander and Jeff Dowler.
Hope to see your post in this month’s challenge!!!
