LABOR DAY 2008...WHAT IT MEANS IN LAKE ARROWHEAD & Everywhere

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty ONE Group Mountain Desert

According to WIKIPEDIA, Labor Day originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union (of New York City) sought to create "a day off for the working citizens".

We, in the United States, have always celebrated LABOR DAY as the "ending," so-to-speak, of our summer (though summer isn't officially over until September 22). The kids get back to school, most vacations are behind us and we begin preparing for the fall and winter months. In Lake Arrowhead, sometimes our population swells from 11,000 to 40,000 plus as folks "come up for air" and get their last blast of fun in--and RELAX, which is exactly the intent of LABOR DAY. We celebrate in many way: picnics, camping, reunions, parades---hundreds or thousands of parades take place across our great Nation.

This year, as you wind down your Labor Day Weekend, keep the good people of the gulf coast in your thoughts and prayers, as Hurricane Gustav takes his toll on their communities, homes and most importantly, their lives.

Hi Kat,

Happy Labor Day to you too. For me, it's a kick-back day. Right now I'm just cruising around the rain for a short while, and that's always fun.

Kat,

Hope you had a Great Labor Day Weekend!  So nice of you to mention to think of those who are and wil be affected by the Hurricane.  Not fair that while some of us are enjoying and vacationing others are struggling with Mother Nature's Fury!

Michelle:  I sometimes wonder if Mother Nature ever sleeps....she is always wrecking havoc somewhere.

Anyway, my weekend was great.  We had a "moving sale" Sat. and made tons of $$$ AND got rid of almost everything! See, we moved two weeks ago and the place we moved into was completely furnished! We had to scale down in the first place, but then had THIS house's "stuff" as well to deal with.  The sale was a blast--met and laughed with many people.     I had an Open House Sunday that was my BEST all summer.  Today...well, I am beat, so I kicked back.

Were you up here?

Kat,

I was up for two days,  sorry I missed your sale.  Saw lots of yard sales around town, but as much as I wanted to, I didn't have time to stop and shop.  We're still painting and renovating so this weekend was all about work for me!  Congratulations, sounds like you had a successful yard sale!  It's always nice to clean house and get organized and if you can make a little extra mullah at the same time, all the better. :)

We still need to do lunch, deary!

Michelle: I say YES....but I'll treat!  See ya there.  (P.S.) I am certain I'll look a complete mess, as our driver that day is bringing his 1968 Mustang cconvertible and we're going on tour with the top down. SO if I look too bad, you can act like you don't know me.

Kat,

Driving around the lake in the convertible sounds like loads of fun, just try not to get side-tracked and miss our lunch!  Just come as you are, no worries and I'll see ya there!
