According to WIKIPEDIA, Labor Day originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union (of New York City) sought to create "a day off for the working citizens".
We, in the United States, have always celebrated LABOR DAY as the "ending," so-to-speak, of our summer (though summer isn't officially over until September 22). The kids get back to school, most vacations are behind us and we begin preparing for the fall and winter months. In Lake Arrowhead, sometimes our population swells from 11,000 to 40,000 plus as folks "come up for air" and get their last blast of fun in--and RELAX, which is exactly the intent of LABOR DAY. We celebrate in many way: picnics, camping, reunions, parades---hundreds or thousands of parades take place across our great Nation.
This year, as you wind down your Labor Day Weekend, keep the good people of the gulf coast in your thoughts and prayers, as Hurricane Gustav takes his toll on their communities, homes and most importantly, their lives.
