pick up the phone: Just Pick Up The Darn Phone

I often hear agents complain about all the calls they have to field. They treat the phone as the enemy, annoying, and another interruption in their day. My goodness isn't this the why we are in Real Estate to help buyers and sellers. Isn't it to make that phone ring, our text message to light up, or hear the sound that lets us know, "you've got mail!" Yes, the robocalls get through, the spammers get through, the wrong numbers get through, and unsolicited sales calls get through. Deal with it—block numbers of those known offenders. Turn your phone off when needed. But rejoice (31 comments)
A good friend who loves when I call has let me know she hates the phone and would instead do anything not to initiate a phone call. She thought I was brave in making calls. How interesting. Debe Maxwell, CRS commented on a post by Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! The topic was 'call reluctance.'
Debe's comment: “ I always wished I had the wonderful gift that Margaret Rome, Baltimore, Maryland has - to be able to make calls like she's brushing her teeth!”

In a nutshell, Leanne said...just pick up the phone.
This point is proved almost daily when callers, a bit surprised, say something like..."I expected a voice message." 'You were the only one who picked up the phone and answered my question." A caller today said he left messages with two other agents with no return calls and another agent answered the phone with "hello" and he was darn sure that was not a person he wanted to work with.' Real estate is not as easy as it looks (8 comments)
Today the roles were reversed when I received got a call from Austin Texas. It was the adorable REALTOR® Erika Albert
Why did Erika call? Because she was participating in the January contest. Erika has successfully been in real estate for 3 years and on ActiveRain for 6 months. And who suggested this call? None other than Lynn B. Friedman. Knowing I am the one making the calls everyday Lynn thought it would be fun to see a role reversal. And it was!
This quick call (46 minutes) was delightful and I found out that Erika’s relatives started The Park School in Baltimore. That’s where my daughter Erica attended school. (14 comments)
There are occasional days in real estate that agents get down. Maybe they are on overload, not enough sleep, family emergencies, a challenging transaction, dealing with a kindness impaired or truth impaired person. How do you get out of that funk? Here's one idea. Remember your favorite clients...the ones you really helped, the ones that were in tears at the settlement table, the ones that brought you flowers to closing, the ones that wrote that fabulous testimonial or who remembers your birthday 10-15 years later. Make a list of these raving fans...the ones who really appreciated your help and expertise. Pick up the phone and (15 comments)
