Friday Fun…When Do You???
Halloween was just last week. The decorations are down. Most of the candy is packed away and I’m still seeing pumpkins in some of the yards.
However, last week our grocery store put up a huge Christmas tree. I’m sure the other decorations will soon follow.
My Halloween decorations are minimal so there was not much to take down. I have a few pumpkins made of vines still out. Because we’ll have 30ish people over for Thanksgiving, I’ll have it partially holiday-decorated without it being too Christmasy”

Friday Fun…Like It? Or Not?
It’s that time again, time being the operative word. Yes…time to Fall Back!
I’m not overly fond of Falling Back or Springing Forward. Whatever it is supposed to be according to Mother Nature is what I want.
While I have to admit it is easier to wake up when it’s lighter outside, it’s hard when 5:30 pm rolls around and it’s dark out.
My poor body takes about two weeks to adjust to the time change. I can deal with that…I’m a human and understand this silliness. But our poor pets don’t know whether to beg, bark, or … (18 comments)

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. There’s no pressure to buy gifts, you don’t have to make travel arrangements to be with family or host big family gatherings (which I do love) and I love how much fun the kids have.

Friday Fun…Scary…Yes? No?
This is the time of year when if you flip around the channels, you’ll find a number of Halloween movies. Most are scary (Chucky) and some make you smile ( E.T.)
For me, I’m into E.T. or It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown rather than A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th.
I’m not fond of clowns or anything that’s robotic, like Frankenstein.

When you’re under the weather, is there a certain food or meal you crave? Larry and I had colds last week and I wanted two things to eat…chicken soup and a big burger with French Fries.
Larry, however, wanted popsicles and ice cream. We did manage to eat healthy meals most of the time but yes, we had lots of chicken soup and managed to sneak in a couple of burgers with fries and onion rings.

The Pumpkin-spice latte, cookies, and creamers started hitting the shelves weeks ago. There are even pumpkin-spice Cheerios and Cavier!!!
While I love a pumpkin-spice scent, I draw the line there. An article I read said that our sense of taste is “one of our weakest senses.” The author, Matt Johnson, who specializes in the application of psychology in marketing, describes it as “hallucinating with our taste buds.”

It’s Friday so time for some fun. When I look at a home to buy, the kitchen is where I head.
While I stand in the kitchen, I imagine myself preparing a meal there. I take in the countertops and cabinets. The layout of the work zones is essential as well, and of course, I want to know where and how large the pantry is.

It could be when you were a kid working after-school jobs or even a job you had to do but weren’t paid for.
Jobs we hate can serve a purpose, though. If you dislike it enough, it may inspire you to go to school, learn a trade, or find something you enjoy doing.

Larry and I have been looking forward to college football since January 9, 2023, when the Georgia Bulldogs whooped TCU (65-7) in the Championship Game.
While a handful of games have been played, the big kickoff is tomorrow…Saturday, September 2.
Let’s have some fun!! Today is College Colors Day which celebrates the kickoff of the college football season. Fans are asked to proudly wear their college colors.

Time for some Friday Fun! It’s Play in the Sand Day so kick off your shoes and let’s have some fun!!!
This was a lot easier to do when we lived in Delray Beach. We would have to go along some of our creeks at Kickerillo to find some sand…or take the 50+ mile drive to Galveston.

There are many desserts I can pass up but I rarely miss accepting a GOOD homemade chocolate chip cookie.
Today is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day so let’s have some fun. By the way, did you know that the chocolate chip cookie was voted America’s favorite cookie?
I’m a bit picky about my cookies, though. If I'm going to eat all the calories (and sugar) I want it to be worth it. My mother made the best “Original Toll House Cookies” which she kept in a real cookie jar!

Friday Fun- This Is Staging???
Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to view many homes. Some were staged and beautifully done. I always made mental notes as I walked through. We can always learn, right?
There were also a few where I had to scratch my head and wonder…what were they thinking?!?
An acquaintance asked me to look at her first staging job. She was excited because a friend had accessories and furniture she could use.
I walked in and was at a loss for words. Every flat surface had oversized faux floral arrangements on it!

Currently (Thursday afternoon) it is slated to be 102 degrees. Our feels-like temperature is 123 degrees!
We continue to walk every morning however even as early as 7 am it can be 80 degrees. I wouldn’t leave home without my Klean Kanteen filled with some ice and water.
I just replaced the one I’d had for 15 years. What I love is that it keeps my cold drinks cold (the ice often is still there at the end of the day) and my coffee hot!!!

How could I let today…World Chocolate Day…pass without a post about chocolate?
There are things we give up for health or other reasons…alcohol, sugar, gluten, dairy products. I could think of many but one food that I would have great difficulty giving up is CHOCOLATE.
Just saying chocolate brings a smile to my face. However, as much as I love chocolate, I am very picky.
I love dark chocolate…good dark chocolate. Give me a homemade chocolate cake with chocolate frosting or a Death By Chocolate Cake!

Hard to believe but July 4th is just around the corner. While we prepare to celebrate our nation’s 247th birthday with parades and fireworks, one thing goes hand in hand with a Fourth of July celebration… FOOD!

In the Q&A recently, Will Hamm asked about the number of members ActiveRain has. As we all know, some have joined but never did anything here.
Some joined and were very active members. After the recession of 2008-2009, some left as work picked up.
ActiveRain circa 2015
Server issues and the infamous Chihuahua caused some to leave.
And sadly, we’ve lost some members of our ActiveRain family due to illness or their passing.
