Wordless Wednesday...Color

Playing with photo editing apps on my iPhone is something I do to wind down at the end of the day or if I want to think about something.
I was editing these flowers the other day and decided to have some fun with them...changing the color and removing the color.

Basically, it’s the same flower but with different shades of color or no color at all. Still beautiful and a gift from the heavens.
Such is life, isn’t it?

Wordless Wednesday...A Visit From the Stork

Mama Peahen is still sitting on her dozen eggs but I wonder if our recent sighting of these Wood Storks might be a sign that mom had better hurry up and get the nursery ready.

(Sorry for the graininess of the photos. My iPhone can only do so much!)

We’re used to seeing Wood Storks when we’re out walking through Green Cay Wetlands. They have a face only a mother could love but they are majestic when they fly. We were surprised to see these when we were out shopping. I’m not sure if … (31 comments)

Wordless Wednesday...We’re Having Babies!

We certainly didn’t expect this! But the other day, Larry went to the garden hose and found our new mother!

We know that the peacocks and peahens have been having their spring fling. If you don’t know, during this time of year, they are obnoxiously loud!!! I was on the phone with Sharon Tara once and she could hear them in the background...What’s that awful noise???”

She’s pretty hidden but we’ve been keeping an eye out for peacocks that might get too close to the nest. I understand that they have been known to go after the eggs because they … (32 comments)

Wordless Wednesday...Know What This Is?

You only have to see a bird, fish, or other animal tangled in monofilament one time to make you become an advocate for monofilament recycling. The object above is a monofilament recycling bin supported by the Boat U.S. Foundation.
The first time was when we were going out of the Boca Inlet many years ago. A pelican had line wrapped around its beak. We called the Florida Marine Patrol to alert them.

With summer around the corner, many will be out fishing, in either fresh or saltwater. Lines break and get tangled.
Please look for these recycle … (32 comments)

Wordless Wednesday...Salsa, Smoothies, Chutney, and More

It wasn’t until after we moved to Florida that I saw my first mango tree. We were on Lake Ida in our bass boat and I had no clue what those things were hanging from several trees.
Mangos weren’t as plentiful in Houston where I grew up. I’d eat papayas and other fruits but only on rare occasion did I have a fresh mango.

The mangoes are ripening on the trees and many are already in the stores.
Want to know what to do with them besides eating them as fruit? Take a look at these recipes. … (26 comments)

Wordless Wednesday...Art in Surprising Places.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. It is also all around us as long as we keep our minds and eyes open for it.

There’s a gentleman that we see at the beach from time to time. He is usually at the pavilion listening to music and making straw hats, birds and other figures.

A few weeks ago when we were out for our morning walk, we saw these creations sticking to a post at one of the gazebos along the sidewalk.

I’m not sure who the artist is, but I’m glad that they shared them … (15 comments)

Wordless Wednesday...Curb Appeal Gone Awry!

Larry and I were driving around one day and this house caught my eye. Talk about Curb Appeal!

I was fascinated because it was unique, quirky, colorful, and fun. It’s not the kind of curb appeal an agent or stager would like to see when they pull up to a house but it brought a smile to my face.

And, I bet that’s what the homeowner feel when they pull into their driveway!

Wordless Wednesday...A New Dining Guest

The other day Larry and I were looking out at our squirrel feeder and he said...I think we may be feeding the squirrels too much!

We looked again, and it was this little guy.

Raccoons are typically nocturnal but that doesn’t mean they won’t be out and about during the day.
The squirrels and peacocks left this little guy to dine alone and didn’t return until after he’d left.

Wordless Wednesday...Where’s Waldo?

Let’s see if Barbara Todaro can find Waldo!

I’ve been editing all of the photos I have and came across this one and Where’s Waldo came to mind.

It is April and spring has sprung which means mating and then nesting season is here.

While you should always watch out for alligators in Florida if you are anywhere near or in water, you should be particularly leery of interrupting their mating and nesting activities.

The bellowing call they make is distinctive, and one you will not forget.
And just in case you didn’t Find Waldo...here you go...

Wordless Wednesday...The Things We Do

Last Saturday was the Delray Beach Easter Bonnet Pet Parade and we all had so much fun seeing all of the dogs and cats dressed in their finest. Their owners were just as cute!
They all did their part to raise funds to support the local animal rescue groups.

While there were many in attendance, these two caught my eye.

Wordless Wednesday...There’s More to Florida than Gators and Flamingos

We were out for a walk in the neighborhood earlier this year and noticed this little guy above. We don’t live in the country so we were quite surprised to see him.

I asked a nearby neighbor if this fellow was his but no...he just showed up one day. They don’t mind his being there except for those early morning wake-up calls.
I’m fascinated by his colors...very different from the peacocks we have in the neighborhood.
And I wonder where the rest of his crowd might be? Is he by himself? Does anyone … (25 comments)

Wordless Wednesday...Spring Brings Forth New Life

Even though it is now officially Spring you wouldn’t know it in some parts of the country.  Today in Delray the high was almost 90 degrees while in Philadelphia there currently is a winter storm warning.
I thought about our morning walks we often take out at Green Cay. This time of year the birds are building their nests. Our peacocks and peahens are doing their mating dances and I even saw some of our squirrels out on an afternoon “date.”

Wordless Wednesday...Which Way to the Sea?

When we had our high surf and seas, our tide was also up, do in part to the full moon.  Beach chairs and umbrellas were as close to the dunes as they could get.

And at the northern end of the beach where locals can keep their sailboats, owners had to move them, in some cases onto the dunes lest they be carried out to sea.

Wordless Wednesday...The Lone Shoes

On our morning walks at the beach we often see a lone shoe...all by itself. It could be on the curb where a car may have parked, or at the sidewalk shower.
Occasionally we’ll see one on the grass or in the sand on the path down to the beach. We’ve found flip flops and flippers...heels and slippers.

I always wonder if the shoe owner realizes that the shoe is still there on the beach or street waiting for them to return and reunite them with their partner shoe.

And, yes, I suppose I’ve had too much beach … (31 comments)

Wordless Wednesday...Hey, Even a Bird Needs Some Primping Time!

Contrary to what I’d like to think, I am not a natural beauty or even close so I have to have my primping time.
Contacts in-check
Lipstick on-check
Appropriate bling on-check
Splash of perfume-check

So, it’s only fair that our wildlife gets to have their primping time before a headshot as well!

Wordless Wednesday...Art? Engineering Feat?

While I’m not overly fond of spiders, I have always been fascinated by spider webs. How could they possibly weave and spin and cross and do whatever they do to make those pesky things that we run into when out enjoying Mom Nature.

Just a few facts…

“A garden spider can produce as many as seven types of silk…”
“Spiders have a design sense.”
“Spiders often replace their web every day.”
~There are different types of spider webs and they have different uses.

“Will you walk into my parlour?” said the spider to the fly.

Wordless Wednesday...Judging a Book By Its Cover?

Even with an overcast sky, Larry and I enjoyed this year’s Festival of the Arts in Delray Beach.

While I always enjoy the creativity of all of the artists, I especially love seeing artists who use material that otherwise would be tossed in the landfill.

Palm Husk

I met Urla Buckwald-Funky Fish & Friends-who creates these fun fish creatures from fallen palm husks. She told me that she had a field day after Hurricane Irma with all of downed palm fronds and husks.

And then look at these!  This lady had a bookstore which she closed. … (20 comments)

Wordless Wednesdays-Sugar, Sugar.

Word of warning to Barbara Todaro ...do NOT read this.

Christmas, and in fact, all holidays are a time for indulging. And nothing says Christmas more than cookies!

After attending our annual Cookie/ornament exchange, I walked away with over 7 dozen cookies, in addition to the 4 dozen different cookies, I decided to make just before Christmas.

Add to that all of the cookies, fruit cakes, pies, and candy that showed up at Christmas dinner, I’m surprised that any of us are standing today.

No wonder children have visions of SUGARplums dancing around in their heads!!!

Wordless Wednesday-My Favorite Interior Photo

Stagers must take hundreds of Before and After photos of every property they stage, regardless of size or price point, and whether it’s an occupied or vacant property.

As hard as we try, we aren’t always able to get the “after” photos we want. When working with an occupied home we may not get a chance to see end results of our suggestions.

And even in vacant stagings, while it’s like working with a blank canvas, not every property will result in that dream shot.

But this particular staging was a favorite of mine. It was also … (40 comments)

Wordless Wednesday- IRMA’s Beach Art

After a storm or hurricane, there are usually two groups of beachgoers…surfers and shell seekers.
I fall into the latter category. Besides the usual seaweed, broken shells, and trash that ends up after strong winds, you never know what the ocean will offer up.

And, if you arrive at low tide, the waters reveal all sorts of treasures that are normally hidden to all but snorkelers and divers.

The beach had quite a few of these sponges all over. I’ve never seen them on the beaches, even after Andrew, Sandy and some of the other storms.  I was … (26 comments)
