tips: How Big Is Twitter? - 01/03/11 06:43 AM
How Big is Twitter? This is without a doubt the largest "Twitter related" graphic I have ever embedded into an ActiveRain blog post. If you printed twitter today, here's some great comparisons of what that might look like with a really good printer! LOL~ I'm not sure how accurate this comparison is, but I did find this very interesting. Infographic by Cartridge Save My first tip and suggestion for 2011? DON'T PRINT Twitter! I'd love to see a similar comparison for someone considering printing Facebook, I'm willing to bet that it would most likely consume the earth's entire source of paper … (14 comments)

I am in no way the Video expert, but there are some things that I have learned these past few weeks that may be helpful to you when creating Video for your Blogs or Websites.  Many of us have to just learn by doing.  Shooting a quality Video is the same as writing a quality post for your Blog.  Content is king, but there are a few other factors that come into play.  Just like a well written Blog, there are some techniques, styles, tricks, and tools that should probably be considered and implemented when creating Video to share with the … (51 comments)

tips: 5 Principles to Creating an Effective Blog Post - 07/03/07 09:57 PM

Before you post on your Blog, here's five principles that may help you get more views, readers and comments, and (no promises), featured on Active Rain!
First off, put some thought and effort into your posts.  There are so many things you can write about IE: your business, events, personal experiences, travel, technology, other members, the Market etc.
If you invest a small amount of time "thinking" about your post and your readers, their perceptions and what you are trying to get across, the better your posts will be.
Don't knock yourself out, and remember, you'll never know what kind of response … (218 comments)

tips: Do You Want to be the "Featured Member" Here's Some POINTS! - 06/01/07 09:02 AM

There is only "ONE WAY" you can be the featured member.  It's Points!  You have to have the most points... period!  It is not based on your successes, your experience, your moral or ethical values, it's all based on points.  I will tell you from personal experience, that points don't get you leads, and points will not get you referrals, it's the content of your Blog that is the most important of all.  However, points do determine where you are placed both on ActiveRain and on Localism.com.

If you are not in the top 10, you will not show up on Localism.com in … (731 comments)

tips: Social Engineering - Something Everyone needs to know about!! - 03/22/07 05:13 PM
While you may not be familiar with the term, we've all heard stories of Social Engineering - the practice of infiltrating an organization by pretending to be an authorized employee, customer, contractor, etc. in order to steal valuable assets.  These con artists attempt to gain access to sensitive information or equipment by taking advantage of your natural human tendency to trust.
A popular social engineering approach is Phishing, the attempt to obtain sensitive information by sending an email to a user and falsely claiming to be a legitimate enterprise.  Social Engineering is one of the biggest threats to any organization or industry, particularly ours as we … (2 comments)

tips: RSS Feed and Windows Vista - 03/12/07 06:33 PM
I just found that the new Microsoft Windows Vista operating system has a built in RSS Feed reader, right on the desktop.
You can select any group from Activerain, click on the "RSS feed", subscribe, and the information from that group gets routed to your Windows Vista Reader.Really cool, now only one click away from all the information you need, and everything you want to be kept up to date on.  I know there are many different readers out on the web, this one is nice because it's right on the desktop of the computer. Literally 1 click away, running in … (17 comments)

tips: The "NEW" Daylght Savings Time (DST) - Tech Tip! - 03/08/07 04:33 PM
Does anybody really know what time it is?Here's a talking point for you with your customers and clients: Beginning in 2007, daylight saving time (DST) will be extended in the United States. DST will start on March 11, 2007, which is three weeks earlier than usual, and it will end on November 4, 2007, which is one week later than usual. This results in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than in previous years.
Unless certain updates are applied to your computer, the time zone settings for your computer's system clock may be incorrect during this four-week period. In … (2 comments)

tips: Should you always Search Before You Blog - 03/07/07 07:09 PM
Did I learn the hard way? YES! I think...I always do a search now, before I post a new blog. There have beenmany times I had a great thought or an original idea, only to find that 15 other people had blogged about the very same idea or concept already.

For example, I spent 15 minutes preparing a piece on DST (Day Light Savings Time) and the affects it would have on your computer, the calendar, you know...all the techy stuff.  Right before I clicked on Post Blog, I decided to do a search in the "Search Blogs field, there must … (22 comments)

tips: Convert For "Sale By Owners" - Get Buyers in the Process! - 03/07/07 06:21 PM
Another FSBO converted to a listing, but with a whole different approach.  I haven't seen a post that suggested this yet, so allow me to share.  Next time you see a FSBO as you're driving down the road, pull over and stop in front of the house!  This may be the hardest part of it all!
Have courage, be strong, don't be a prisoner of fear.  Get out of your car, go up and knock on the door.  When the owner answers the door, simply say these words:
"Hi I'm Brad (please use your name though) and even though I'd love to … (73 comments)

Why do I need Title Insurance Coverage? Q: What is title insurance?
A: An insurance policy--protecting against loss should the condition of title to land be other than as insured.
Q: Why do I need title insurance?
A: When you buy a home, or any property for that matter, you expect to enjoy certain benefits from ownership. tips: Activerain MLS Online - 03/06/07 06:40 PM
Welcome to the Activerain MLS Online group.  This group was created to make the search for listings easy to find within the AR Network.  Each group member here has the desire to do more business and networking, but also with the expectations of getting referrals, generating leads, exposing their inventory to potential buyers, and having their names and companies moved up in the search engines.
I have looked through the 23 pages of "groups" and joined those that peaked my personal interests.  However, I had difficulty finding just one group that focused on posted listings.  Search no more.  We already have members joining … (69 comments)

tips: Microsoft Outlook Tech Tip - Spam and Pop-ups! - 03/04/07 10:52 PM
I DON'T LIKE SPAM...To reduce your email spam, turn off the preview pane in Microsoft Outlook.  This will allow you to still partially read the email without actually opening it.  The preview pane is usually on by default.  By clicking on the email to delete it, you aren't opening it and exposing yourself to future spam from the sender, or others that might purchase your email address from other spammers.  I have found this to be a very effective way to minimize spam without losing potential clients and referrals that find me on the internet.  You can setup rules in outlook to … (23 comments)
