first security bank: Old Searcy AR, People's Bank. First Security now, K.Elnee Auto, Ford - 04/21/24 10:16 AM

Expertly enlarged picture of a car on Arch Street in downtown Searcy AR many years ago!  And here is the original picture.  Looks as it there are two car agencies around Peoples Bank which is now First Security Bank.  One is Ford and the other looks like K. Elwee Auto Co.  Anyone remember it?  I have never seen a more professional enlargement and it was done years ago by a blog friend.
Last but most important is a picture of a lady standing beside the door of this bank and she was the one who renamed it.  She suggested First Security Bank … (7 comments)

first security bank: Going down! Drive by and say "Good-bye." 210 E Vine & 511 N Main. - 05/10/20 12:15 PM

210 E Vine....REALTORS'S home for 13 years.
Changes are coming to Searcy AR.  Big changes.  The newspaper reported demolition permits were given for 6 addresses near downtown Searcy.  First Security Bank seems to be planning a new complex and has bought many properties that are very close to the court square.  The above picture shows the Searcy Board of  REALTORS home for the past 13 or 14 years.  It was one of the purchases.  While moving we found a sign for Ed Bethune's law office.  He had his office here when he lived in Searcy.

511 N. Main......a charming older cottage.
This property has … (8 comments)

first security bank: Security Bank money coin bag. Old. First Security Bank Searcy AR - 08/26/19 11:39 AM

Old money bag
Too bad you can't feel the age of this money bag.  It is stiff and inflexible and a bit dirty but the zipper still works.  The small print at the bottom says Member Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
The pictures on this bag show the bank, I think, when it was remodeled somewhere in the 50's or 60's or 70's.  My history expert, Anita Hart Fuller, tells me that the bank was originally named The People's Bank.  The employees at the bank had a contest to see who could rename it.  Her mother, Corinne Hart, won the contest with the name … (12 comments)

first security bank: What is this?? Antique coin counter. Historic bank at McRae AR. - 09/27/17 01:22 PM

Bet you none of you  have even seen one of these.  I had not.  It shows how far we have come in this modern world.  I found this as I visited the wonderful First Security Bank in McRae AR.  The friendly banker demonstrated for me.  So in this next picture you see the proportional size of the object.  I have blogged about this delightful historic spot before.  Click here and review the blog.  The banker remembered me and said, "We have gained something new since you were here."  I found the thing fascinating, as is the entire old bank.  Be sure … (6 comments)

first security bank: Arch Street, the way it used to be. I liked it! Historic photo. - 01/13/17 04:34 PM

Recognize this street?
It is a great view from the corner of Arch and Spring looking toward the First Methodist Church. Looking carefully you can see Security Bank on the sign, I believe.  The date is not certain but it must have been several years ago.  Car guys can tell the year by the cars in the picture.
It also appears to be a filling station down on the corner in front of the church. Historic pictures are so interesting and enjoyable.  Guess I need to visit the area and take a picture of the way it is now.  Tell us about it … (17 comments)

first security bank: Closeup photos of the old People's Bank Searcy AR, now First Security Bank. - 07/14/12 08:10 AM
Our newfound blog friend, James Whitlow, who bought the old postcard of People's Bank in Searcy Arkansas from ebay has very thoughtfully sent us scans of the card.  The scans are SO clear.  This bank became First Security Bank and we have had other blogs about it.  Super Sleuth Anita has lots of pictures of her mother, who actually selected the name Security Bank, at this bank.  We have to review.

Now let's see the close-up scans.

Were those not great closeups!!  James was in town and took a current picture but Activerain got mad … (10 comments)

first security bank: Mystery photo from yesterday solved. McRae Arkansas has historic bank.... - 10/02/10 01:35 AM
No one seemed to know what the picture I posted yesterday was.  Some sharp minds visit this blog but no one thought of Bonnie and Clyde!
The picture shows bullet proof glass.....very old.  Evidently that is what happens with bullet proof glass as it ages.
I had an REO in the little town of McRae Arkansas, 743 population in 2009, about 12 miles from Searcy.  Needing to cash a check or make a deposit, I went into the bank shown below.

It's on a corner and you can see the street name.  It is right in the middle of town … (19 comments)

first security bank: Another photo op at First Security Bank in Searcy Arkansas. WWII years. - 12/30/09 07:54 AM
What neat photos we have found of old Searcy Arkansas.
Evidently the first one is of a Wave in uniform visiting in front of First Security Bank in order to perhaps solicit women to sign up for the Waves.
Look at the Ford Motor Company sign behind her.  Who can remember when there was a car dealership downtown on the square.
Also note the window opened at the bank.  This must have to gain ventilation in a stuffy bank with no central air.

first security bank: Photo Op at Security Bank, Searcy Arkansas. Two ladies in fashionable attire. - 10/02/09 12:47 PM
Seems as if Security Bank, which is now First Security Bank, was a lovely building where lots of photos were taken.  First Security Bank in Searcy Arkansas has just remodeled this bank to look original as in these pictures.
These two ladies are posing at the same spot.
The first lady below in the fur coat (which we're afraid to wear now) is unknown unless some of my readers can identify her.  Notice the old city lamp post reflected in her picture.  Reportedly these antiques were later on sold and replaced with more modern ones.  What's that thing under the lamp post?
The second … (28 comments)

first security bank: From bad ugly to beautiful in just a few days. Old Searcy Arkansas building. - 03/16/09 12:05 AM

Downtown Searcy ARKANSAS, corner of Arch
and Spring Streets on the Square.

This is an old picture of Searcy Arkansas's Security Bank.  It is now called First Security Bank and is one of the strongest banks in the state.
My next picture will show how it has been restored. Throughout the years it has had different facades as the fashions changed.
Subject today, however, is the building across the street that shows in the background of this photograph.
It has recently sold and my understanding is that the upstairs has been made into a very … (12 comments)

first security bank: Searcy old bank and old one being renewed. - 08/25/08 10:42 AM

Some of you have said you like my old photos and I'm glad.  Some have said to give us the present to compare with the old.  I am doing that today.  First Security Bank used to look like the picture below.  It was added on and covered over many times during the years.  Now it is being restored to some of its former majesty.  It's on the court square and the first picture is courtesy of Paula, who took it as a photography project for the Girl Scouts in the 40's.
I like the way it is looking.
