home staging in minneapolis mn: Artwork When Selling Your Home - 05/16/19 06:57 AM
I normally see two schools of thought regarding artwork when I am assisting home owners in getting their home ready to hit the market.

One is that all artwork should be off the walls and leave everything neutral. This I especially see if the home has just been painted and the seller is reluctant to put holes in the walls. The second school of thought is that all walls should have a piece of artwork including small spaces and hallways.

What should be your mindset for selling is somewhere in the middle.

You must have artwork on your walls when you are selling your … (12 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: Can I Decorate My Home for Christmas When It's for Sale? - 12/01/17 06:23 AM
As a Home Stager I get that question a lot. There is a very short answer....Absolutely!
Christmas is a widely celebrated holiday that most people understand. If it is your tradition I don't feel that you need to put that aside just for selling your home. The potential buyer will most likely also celebrate and decorate for Christmas and may appreciate seeing the perfect place for the tree and the warmth of the holiday in their future home.
There are a few caveats, however to decorating your home for Christmas while it is for sale. That caveat being, how into Christmas are you?

home staging in minneapolis mn: A Blog Post about Doors! Home Staging Minneapolis MN - 08/03/17 08:50 AM
It is....a post about doors! And no it's  not a construction post, ha. I recently was on vacation and one of the places we visited was Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. I fell in love with it!! And one of the main reasons was because of the doors. OH MY GOSH!

I seriously could not stop looking and photographing doors. Front doors, garage doors, gates and doors to gardens. Oh my! The character, the charm, the uniqueness got me to thinking.....why don't we all have great doors?

I have a boring front door. I paint it a different color every year to bring life to it … (6 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: May I Toot My Own Horn for a Moment? - 11/20/15 12:37 AM
I am going to go ahead and toot!

A UK company asked to interview me as part of their "Designer Insight" series and the article just came out. I think it turned out great and I am so excited I had the opportunity.

They asked me five questions about my style, I had to select five items that are my top design picks of the season, plus submit two photos of my work.
It was great fun as well as an honor to be asked.

home staging in minneapolis mn: Home Staging Is Much More Than De-Cluttering and Moving Furniture - Part 3; Home Stager Minneapolis, MN - 07/05/11 02:01 AM
Home Staging Is Much More Than De-Cluttering and Moving Furniture - Part 3
Home Stager Minneapolis, MN

In this series I have been showing rooms in one home and explaining the suggestions I made in each room.
Part 1 was the Family Room, Part 2 was the Living Room, and Part 3 now looks at the Dining Room.
The suggestions for this room were simple. Simplify and Paint!
The room had too much going on with the table and chairs, chairs in the corners, a huge hutch, a busy rug, and art work that was too small for the walls and … (28 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: Are Your Kitchen Cabinets Dated but You Don't Have Thousands of Dollars for New? - Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN. - 06/14/11 02:11 AM
Are Your Kitchen Cabinets Dated but You Don't Have Thousands of Dollars for New?
Home Staging and Redesign Minneapolis, MN.
As a Designer and Home Stager I come across many kitchens that need updating. Many homeowners want to update their kitchens, either for gaining top dollar when selling or for their own enjoyment.
I can't say it enough, "KITCHENS SELL HOMES". Period.
A total kitchen update costs tens of thousands of dollars and if you are staying in your home it is okay, spend the money and enjoy it.
If you are selling you may be wondering the best place to spend your money to … (38 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: A Time Machine Ride - Four Decades in One Day! - 11/22/10 01:34 AM
The 70's were a great decade for many of us. Can you say "Disco"? How about "love the water-bed". But when selling a house the 70's is not the best "flash from the past". This townhome in Rosemount, MN got a quick ride on a time machine so it can now compete for a modern 2010 buyer.

Selling a home is competitive and your buyer needs to see themselves living in THIS decade.

home staging in minneapolis mn: Vacant Home Staging, Golden Valley, MN - From Cold to Cozy and Charming! - 09/22/10 01:31 AM
Rooms With Style was recently called to complete a vacant home staging in this newly refurbished and updated home in Golden Valley, MN. The home is stunning with beautiful detailing.
The problem was the buyer could not differentiate between the living area and the dining area. Although the wiring had been completed, the builder chose to not add a dining room light fixture so the new home owner could place it exactly where they wanted it. Great idea but it did leave some confusion.
The dining space is small but appears so much smaller when it is vacant. The living area is also small making it … (19 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: Never Underestimate the Power of a Home Stager! - 09/16/10 12:44 AM
I got a call from a very busy Realtor in town that I had never worked with. The Home Stager she had used for years had moved away and she got my name from a co-worker.
She asked me to go to one of her upcoming listings that needed some guidance and help. She told me upfront of some things that needed to be done but qualified it with, "I have already talked to the home owner and she will not take the wall paper down or paint".
So off to the Home Staging Consultation I go. Wondering what I really can advise if the home owner is … (11 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: When You Have A Weird Space in a House......Show the Buyer Something They Can Do with It! - 09/13/10 01:34 AM
Many houses have them, a weird space that when it is empty you don't have a clue what you would do with it. Show the buyer SOMETHING they can do with it.
I have had a few of these lately during vacant home stagings. Here are three examples where I had to stand, stare at it and wonder.......what shall it be??

I do not have a before picture of this first one, but you'll get the idea. Small corner in a kitchen not big enough for a bistro table. What shall it be? How about a little desk to hold Cook … (21 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: Master Bedrooms are Important Square Footage - Treat them as Such! - 09/08/10 01:22 AM
Master Bedrooms are extremely important square footage and should be treated as valuable property!
In my opinion if someone has narrowed it down to two homes to buy the deciding factor will be the Kitchen and Master Bedroom. Everyone knows "kitchens sell homes". I don't disagree. But, I think the Master Bedroom is a close second and so many sellers ignore that room. Check out this difference:

home staging in minneapolis mn: Who can Resist Before and After Pictures? A Vacant Home Staging, Minneapolis, MN - 08/30/10 07:59 AM
Don't you love before and after pictures? I do. That must be why I watch so my HGTV and am a Designer and Home Stager.
I got the prevledge to stage this vacant home a few days ago that is an incredible house. It is only a few blocks from Lake Nokomis and has so many upgrades.
The full potential of the home was being missed when it was vacant. Although good bones, there were a few spots that could leave a buyer bored.
The buyer was originally greeted by a dark living room. No overheads lights and the blinds were shut so it … (24 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: Attract More Tenants - First Impressions of the Property are Key: A Redesign Project in Minneapolis, MN - 08/19/10 04:27 AM
Attract More Tenants - First Impressions are key. If you are a property manager of an apartment complex the most important thing is keeping the apartments full. 100% occupancy is your goal.
What if your property is in a very young and hip area but what the potential tenant sees upon entry is this:

A tired and worn out entry may not set the tone of who your target market is for the area which is young professionals. The first impression is important so this may attract more tenants to your property:

Here are more before and after pictures of the apartment entryway … (19 comments)

home staging in minneapolis mn: Vacant Home Staging in Edina, MN - 08/02/10 06:33 AM
Last week I had the pleasure to stage this Vacant Condo in Edina, MN. The investor contacted me the previous week to submit a bid and within a few days we had a signed contract.
The investor had put in new carpet, counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and lighting and now all it needed was some pizazz.
Home Staging provides the wow factor needed to take it from good to great. This previously beautiful but beige home is now beautiful and bold.
Don't let your listing be forgotten. Have them professionally staged so the buyer will not only remember it but … (24 comments)
