Dissing Activerain, Why?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Talk 2 Midori, LLC BK645709

Yesterday I received an interesting email from someone who reads my blogs.  It's not a member but an outsider looking in...a real estate agent who never tried nor cared to join ActiveRain...based on "what they heard!"

They wondered why I placed all of my quality content here on this network rather than build my own blogs.

"Since you are an ActiveRain Ambassador and getting paid by the network  Don't you think you might disclose it?"

Blah..blah...blah...blah..blah.. I think you get the jest of it...

Dissing Activerain, Why?

Long winded...disrespectful and made my blood boil.  :)  I think I have my mojo back!

My written response:

Hey jerky   Hey,

Thanks for contacting me and I am always open to different points of view.  It strikes me odd someone of your intelligence would base a decision of "what they heard" about the largest real estate network with 161,000 + members and going strong. When I joined there was only 142 profiles.  Some call it cliquey, I call it community!

When I started on Active rain, I felt the same way..it felt cliquey and almost reminded me of high school.  But the truth was people were kind, shared thoughts and ideas and before you knew it, some of us actually became very good friends. Can't say blogging was a big hit in Daytona Beach then.  But its hitting big now...can't wait to show off my new upcoming listing, its a beauty and thanks to posting my ActiveRain blogs to my Facebook..one of my friends on Facebook has contacted me to sell their house...I sure can't wait to meet them face to face.  You are crazy smart to pay attention to what you heard.

My quality content was nothing before this network.  As a matter of fact its this network that helped me to write.  Many of us experienced pay it forward in a way that will never exist again.  I learned from the best...and many have gone to their corners of real estate but their words are here on this platform forever.  Why don't you read a few of these posts instead of listening to what you heard.

Lets hit on this Ambassador thing, ...I don't get paid by ActiveRain but I have always been an ambassador..I don't sell the product...I endorse it and use it and train it when needed.   At first I thought that is what I wanted to do was to sell the product...but for me personally I couldn't...I received some of the best coaching for FREE and I promised to pay it forward...and I do.  Should I disclose that?

Why not rethink what you are thinking.  If you want some help setting up your profile or have a question about the community or some good groups to join...email me.  And instead of paying attention to what you heard it might benefit you by taking a few minutes and reading what this community is all about.

Best Regards, Midori

I haven't been posting as frequently nothing against the network. They must have made the assumption I was mad at the network?  Sorry I hate to admit it.......

I've been experiencing the worst blog fog for months now.

I never understand why people insist on dissing ActiveRain especially those that never have tried it.

Good morning everyone

This post was not meant to be an AR rah rah session...as Melina put it..the point is

  • Why do agents try products or not try products based on what they heard?
  • Why do agents think they have the right to contact another via email for what they believe in right or wrong?

WHO CARES!

Why criticize something you have never tried?  FEAR?  Embarrassment?  Ignorance?

Activerain can be used in many ways...some prefer writing content vs. socializing and others prefer to socialize rather than post...to each his own.

The results are in...I know what I have gotten out of AR..ambassador or not...I will always talk about the best things AR has to offer...

  • EZ to use platform
  • Strong SEO power
  • Awesome way to get your message out
  • And a community that is helpful

I will always try to empower agents with tools and systems that work!

I do notice that those that move on sometimes have less than positive things to say about the network.  Makes me very sad.  AR has been good for me as a person, for my business and is the best source for  FREE real estate training. I think anyone who has participated or actively uses this network may very well say the same thing.

Melina I appreciate your response and you pointed out something...I would have as well..everyone is welcome to AR even if they do not want to socialize.

Good morning ma'am,

I am sorry for taking so long to respond comment to your post.  I think that folks who are quick to judge AR based on what they hear need to get involved and experience it before making a rash judgement.  And by being involved I am talking about giving it a good old college try for more than a month, more like 6-9 months then make a judgement.  BUT, they need to be active and NOT sit on the sidelines during that time.

Very well stated retort ma'am.

Midori:

People often criticize things they do not understand.  Any Realtor who does not get the fact they have to move on and learn to embrace new technologies is not going to be around for much longer.

I really like Rick's list of items that people have tried to resist over the years from the Internet, to fax machines to AR.

I think your gracious approach to this was terrific.  I am a fan of being nice. I think that works in the long run.  It certainly beats the alternative...

Midori -

It's sad that some folks lead a life of negativity... I wouldn't give them a minute of time.  Seriously, anyone who has been learned on AR, contributed to AR or reaped the rewards of blogging on AR knows the truth.

I teach real estate in Oklahoma. I have no problem sharing everything thatr works for me, Active Rain, Google ad words, Posterous, Twitter, etc. You can give them statistics like, I blog about short sales, and in the last month I have had 3 people call me after reading them and saying come list. They did say they are interviewing me, they already did. If I have 1 out of 20 that will not only be positive about it, but put it into practice, I feel that I have been successful.

They do it because it is easy to step on what you don't know. If they are struggling and frustrated they want to bring others down with them. Don't let it happen - move past them.

Midori I know your post was not meant that way, but the comment stream took it into that direction.  I think that is the crux of the problem.  Your post is very neutral and your response was respectful to the emailer.  I assume they emailed you because you are an Ambassador.  I'm not sure what disclosure they want since the badge is right there front and center...but that is a different issue.

In order to talk about how great AR is and that it has 160,000+ members there needs to be some acceptance that of the 160,000 members, not all think AR is the best thing since sliced bread.  They are welcome too and shouldn't be told they wouldn't fit in with the AR crowd anyway.  They shouldn't be told they are angry or negative for not thinking the way some people do.

Why is someone angry for not liking AR?  How does saying they are angry or negative make them feel welcome here?  Aren't some of these comments reinforcing the reason why they don't get AR?  It is my personal belief that you can support AR and the community without calling its dissenters unwelcome, angry, or negative.

Hi Midori!!  Sounds like you met up with an individual with some issues that they may need to take up with a counselor!!  Dust your coat off and move on!! AR is a wonderful place to be!!  All the best!!

I second Michelle's comment - and of course Missy is spot on with her

"They learn here...they move on...they act high and mighty."

It use to bother me - until I figured out that their opinion really didn't matter anyway.

Well I would say over 162,000 people love AR...so step aside 1 emailer who is probably negative about anything and everything....

Midori, great response. I'm always amazed with people who criticize but never bother to get more insides about the subject.

By the way how is Florida? Still very humid? I used to live in Fort Lauderdale.

Midori, it's easy for one to criticize as what they're really saying is that they wish they were experiencing your feelings of joy. Far too many just don't get it when it comes to blogging and view it as a complete waste of time.  Who's really crazy?

Active Rain certainly has proved to be  a valuable resource for blogging tips and real estate related information.  It has also proved to be a supportive community that helps one another.

Not sure why people form opinions without actually having all of the facts.  Heresay and gossip rarely contain much truth and its unfortunate that people sometimes buy into it.

Midori - I wonder if some people are fearful of the point system and just feel it would take too long to catch up on AR and be displayed on the front page search for their local area.  I dare this person to find another real estate networking system that can help with lead generation like AR.

Midori - sorry about chiming in here late...I would not diss it for the world even having an outside blog. Recently I was a the local association where they offered blogging for Realtors(r) and I knew who was giving the class. He mentioned that he did not care for Active Rain - he did not give a reason -I totally disagreed with him. The bad thing about this session was, the course should have been given more emphasis on AR than wordpress because most of the Realtors there did not even know how and what to blog about. Needless to say, after the session was over, I told the remaining Realtors there that Active Rain is the BEST place to start out.

In the critque sheet, I also make note that this course was very good but emphasis should have been given to Active Rain.

Midori - Great response... I agree with the pay it forward strategy.  When I make tech presentations, I include ActiveRain because my blogging strategy would have stopped after a month if I didn't have the information, resources and encouragement offered by other AR members.  Mark it down as "this guy doesn't have a clue."
