Fitness Comes To Bernal Heights - And The Dogs Are Loving It Too!

A great new business recently opened in Bernal Heights and I had the chance to catch up with one of the proprietors of this new fitness center.  It's called "Fit BERNAL Fit." It's located at 701 Cortland and you won't believe how innovative a fitness center can be. It is truly groundbreaking.

I met Jeanne and Dean Eriksen at an open house not too long ago and we hit it off right away. I have to say I enjoy my open houses, meeting people, and connecting with the locals when I can. These guys are just delightful. I come to find out that they are the ones who started this new business on Cortland, a fitness center. Bernal Heights needed one for sure but there's an amazing twist to this place. No, there is no play room for kids...there's a play area for dogs. That's right you can work out and your pooch has a wonderful indoor and outdoor area to play and be safe while you work off those unwanted pounds.

Coyote Is Responsible For All Those Lost Pounds!

The idea came to Jeanne who was looking for a convenient fitness facility for herself and noticed that there wasn't one in Bernal Heights. She ventured into the nearby neighborhoods and wanted to take her dog, Coyote, with her. Problem was that none of the facilities allowed her to keep her dog near her as she worked out and she was fearful of leaving Coyote on a leash in the street. This made her very uncomfortable, not to mention what it did to Coyote.  MOMMY!!!

She was thinking this problem needed a solution. She was walking down Cortland with Dean late last year and came across a vacant storefront and casually said to Dean, "We should open a fitness center right here." After come reservations, Jeanne got Dean on board and the rest is history.

You can get a complete workout at the Fit Bernal Fit. I think the name might come from something like, "See Spot run. Run, Spot, run." "Fit Bernal Fit." You get the picture. It has great hours. It's innovative in that each member gets a coded key to the facility. This allows unlimited access and helps the proprietors keep costs down which helps make it more affordable to the locals. Prices are reasonable and the convenience is tremendous. Visit and let Jeanne know Frank sent you.

My doggie would love it. She's a real 'people person dog'. She loves to visit with people.

Being a new dog owner, I think it is a fantastic idea! But I don't get why there isn't a place for little humans, too - maybe it's in an urban area where there aren't many kiddies?

Coyote is a little cutie. Maybe I would work out somewhere like that if I was surrounded by little kitties.

Just loving this write-up! Frank, you are a talented writer and I am totally digging your point of view! Especially that comment with "mommy!" from Coyote. Ha ha!!

There actually is a place for the kids! Because the space is too small to have both pups and tots, fit BERNAL fit teamed up with a local daycare centre, so members can have their kids 'drop in' for two hour blocks of time. It's a great way to plug other businesses in the community together!
