The 2010 MCAS Miramar Air Show:
Size Does Matter!
The C-5 Galaxy is a monster plane, and it was open front and back so that we could walk through it:
The C-5 Galaxy is built by Lockheed, the first one in 1968 coming from the Lockheed plant in Marietta, Georgia. It has been in the United States Air Force since 1969 and is one of the largest military aircraft in the world. This one had been flown down to MCAS Miramar for the air show but it is stationed at the March Air Reserve Base up in Riverside, California. The C-5 Galaxy weighs 550,000 pounds, carries up to 180,000 pounds of cargo, and flies up to 500 mph.

Jim: Some great pic's I have been reading about this but the pic's really bring it alive. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jim, I love stuff like that. A few years ago I went with my brother Bob to Ellington field (towards Galveston on I45 from Houston) to an exhibit where we got to see the "Vomit Comit" where they train the astronauts for 0 (or negative g's). They also had a huge airplane there with the front part open like the one you are showing, but they didn't let us walk through. This was before I started taking pictures everywhere I went for blogs.
These big planes are beasts! I know it is smaller but I remember flying in the belly of a C130 or whatever while deploying with the Marines...no window seat! Somehow I felt safer than flying commercial!
We just had an air show in Toronto. It's an annual event of flying at high speeds in unison by pilots who are all "top guns".
But, nothing like this on the ground.
Hello Jim - We went to the Georgetown Air Show last weekend. No C5s for us. There's no way it could land on our little runways. Thanks for the great pictures.
Jim ~ You got some great photos. It is difficult to capture these types of shots. I enjoyed them very much. Thanks!
Jim - Those are awesome pictures. I've never been to an air show but after seeing these shots, I want to go to one if and whenever they come to a place near us. Thanks for sharing.
Richard – There’s nothing like a good air show displaying all the military might that our tax dollars have paid for over the decades.
Kathy – Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Liz – My husband was going to take me to Ellington Field and the NASA complex back in 1999, but I was just too tired to make the drive with him from our hotel at the Galleria. We had already done a lot of touring in Houston.
Gary – I don’t think I could fly if I didn’t have a window seat. I have to be able to see where we’re going! LOL
Brian – The Miramar Air Show claims each year that it is the largest air show in the nation. You’ll have to come down some year!
Andy – You could make use of some of those wide freeways maybe.
Joan – I took probably 30 pictures to get these four good ones. I tried flash, no flash, wide aperture, small aperture, etc.
Rosalinda – I think everyone should go to an air show at least once so that they can witness firsthand the military might that their tax dollars have been paying for during our lifetimes.
