Balanced rocks at Seaport Village One of the great things about living in a major tourist trap like San Diego is that there are also lots of free things to do — walk along the beach, walk along the downtown waterfront, go window shopping... One of the best places to do a little window shopping is Seaport Village on the downtown waterfront: On any given day you can watch balloon makers make little children happy, watch parrots and parakeets dashing here and there at the behest of their owner, and various free events each weekend. One of the things I like to see is the guy who balances rocks. It never ceases to amaze me, especially when a gust of wind comes along and blows them down. I'm pretty sure he plans it to make believers out of any doubters. The guy who balances the rocks, picture at right, is not always there, which is a shame because every time I've seen him there, he has a huge crowd watching. Since he's not always there, I can't tell you when to go to see this balancing act, but if you're in the neighborhood, especially on a weekend, stop by and see if he's there. It's worth a visit, and you just might find something else you like at the many Seaport Village shops and restaurants. ♪♫♫♫♪ Recent blog posts:
Jim, this is simply amazing...balancing the rocks is something I could never do. I would probably get mad and want to throw them :)
I have seen the balanced rocks. I have neither the time or patience to do that! Quite amazing though.
I love when I run across balanced rocks, that is very cool! Did you know that there are 4 types of rock balancing?
- Pure balance
- Counter balance
- Free style
- Balanced stacking
Just thought you might like to know that! Love those photos.
How fun and what a great gift to give to others ... entertainment just curiosity. Love it and nice photos!
Wow Jim, Next time I am in San Diego, I will have to get more information of where to find this guy. That is a talent!
Jim - amazing ..... just as a slight wind can unbalance and topple the rocks the balance in our lives is often interrupted by the winds of business ..... it takes time and effort to maintain balance in ones life.
That reminds me of the Rocks at Sunfish pond, (On the Appalachian Trail in NJ) The beach is never the same there, and considering it is a difficult 5 mile hike to get to the pond it leaves you wondering who did it all?
Thanks for the Re-Blog of my Trigger lead blog!
That is true Jim....you have a fun advantage living in a tourist area. That guy is amazing and what an act!
Jim,
What a great way to define art. We have a guy in Carpinteria who does sculptures on the beach, and then lets the tide wash it away. And life begins all over again. What a treat that this unqiue individual brings. A
Jim, I was very fortunate to visit beautiful San Diego a few years back. The area is simply gorgeous. I did not see the rock man and have never seen anything quite like that. We need more rock men artists in the world. I love it! Thanks so much for sharing something new and extraordinary.
