Lottie,  That's a great resource!  Thank you for sharing that web site with us.  We have a garage that really needs cleaning out.  My opinion, not my hubby's!

Lottie, thanks for the resource. Sometimes we have things to get rid of that our recycle people do not take.

Marge, my husband and I have different ideas of what needs cleaning out, too! LOL!

Thanks Judi. Have you tried Earth911.com for your area? It would be interesting to see if it works in more rural areas, too.

The recycling only comes every other week, which I think is ridiculous when they used to come every week. Now I find I'm putting recyclables in the trash, which just kills me to do. Thanks for the suggestion,

SINGLE STREAM recycling is the BEST way so that people are not left with unwanted items being stored in their homes when they want them gone....they end un in the regular domestic trash when they can't be recycled with the other trash

My wife, daughter, and I recycle all paper and plastics.  We take them to the recycle bins on the way to work or play.  The city has curbside pickup in large 45 gallon totes.  Everything the neighbors place in those totes is loose.   Guess who lives at the end of the culdesac and is constantly picking up their left overs that the Nebraska winds blow out of the tote as it is being dumped into the city truck?   No...it is not the city worker.

Maureen, I'm glad the Earth911.com works for you in Portland, and same for you, Nancy, in the Olympia area.

Michelle, I know Santa Clara County does a great job with recycling. I'm glad Earth911.com is helpful to you.

Pamela, hopefully weekly recycling won't be long in reaching you. Until then, perhaps Earth911.com will come to your rescue.

Wallace, I'm completely in agreement, single-stream recycling is the best. But for toxics, old paint, lithium batteries, etc, Earth911.com can be very helpful.

Joan and Michael, I'm glad you found Earth911.com interesting and helpful.

Mike, it must be frustrating to pick up wind blown trash and recycling! I don't know what the solution to that might be, other than thinking of it as your volunteer work!

Richie, I love having weekly curbside recycling, but Earth911.com goes a step further and helps us recycle/safely dispose of toxic substances. Good for the earth!

Terrie, thanks for your comments. I'm glad you've already put Earth911.com to use!

Laura, recycling has gone mainstream in many areas--a good thing, too.

Sharon, it sounds like NY, CA and many other places have wisely embraced recycling. Now we can get rid of toxic items in a safe manner, too.
